no phone service, no 3G

ever since i woke up yesterday morning, my droid has constantly been switching between the phone not working and the 3g radio not working. when the phone is not working, it will show full coverage until i try to press call. as soon as i hit that button, the signal strength drops to 0 and it will not dial out. when someone else tries to call me, it rings for them on the phone they are calling from but my droid does nothing at all. the really strange thing is that while phone calls cannot be made or received, SMS and 3g coverage work fine. however, for a few hours yesterday, and again this morning, i could make and receive calls but my 3g radio would not work. not only could i not connect to the internet, there was no icon on the taskbar for it at all. at this point, SMS and phone calls would work fine but i have 0 internet/e-mail access unless i connect to wi-fi. i spent over an hour on the phone with Verizon yesterday, to no avail. anyone know what this could be? i have tried the obvious stuff (battery pulls, turning the network/data/wi-fi on&off, updating roaming capabilities, etc.) but if anyone could provide any other suggestions, i would be very grateful!

have you recently done a factory reset? Im not saying to do one, im asking if you have already done one? im trying to pinpoint when your problem started.

nope, haven't tried that yet. i talked to VZW again today and they are sending me a refurb, but with all the issues i have heard about them lately, i would much rather get this one working.

Manually program your phone. You'll need your MDN, MIN, and SID (verizon can provide that for you just call them)

Follow these steps:

1. Dial ##7764726 (##program)
2. SPC password is 000000
3. User activation
4. Enter MIN, MDN, and SID
5. Click done
6. Click home
7. Phone will restart.

Let me know if that works.

this is one of the steps i took with verizon on the phone yesterday. she had me manually change the SID, but it did not solve the problem.

This happened to me about a month ago. No signal, no 3G, then I'd get it to work for a little while and think it was ok...Went into verizon store, tried everything you've done, nothing. They sent me a new phone. Same problem. I finally talked to someone at verizon that said they'd send some signal to a tower.... Whatever it was, it worked.

You have the most current baseband. Dont know what else to tell you other than a full system wipe.

how much info will i lose by doing a full system wipe? i know my e-mails/contacts will be backed up by my gmail account, but what about apps/homescreen layout/system settings/etc?? i can't be any more effort than what i am going to have to do to switch to the refurb so i may just give it a shot.

stealing the neighbor's wi-fi worked to update my contacts, astro file manager was awesome for backing up all my apps. phone is working now but still no 3g access. :(

Well. I'm sorry. I tried all I know. Sorry I couldn't resolve it for you. But I'm going to bed for now. Hopefully your night goes better than your day has.
