Hey guys, just got the phone on Sunday, and I've been doing my best to put it through its paces so far. I absolutely love it so far.

I'm still tinkering with my home screen trying to decide how I want it to look, and I'm scouring the web for the "must have" apps for android.

Anyone have any suggestions for must have apps or games? Right now I have:
  • facebook for android
  • handcent
  • 3g watchdog
  • barcode scanner
  • android agenda widget
  • angry birds beta
  • launcher pro
  • ringdroid
  • fx camera

I'm still trying to learn the ins and outs of the system, so I haven't done any kind of modifications yet, plus I'm holding on to see if Froyo will actually be released in the near future before I go to the trouble to root.

From a Vibrant user:
For eye candy I use Flikie Wallpapers with Wallpaper Rotator. For my finances, I use anMoney. Laputa looks to be my choice for eReader so far. Still exploring PdaNet and EasyTether for tethering so not sure there yet. PhoneWeaver is terrific for setting profiles (still looking into Tasker). Reduce Photo Size comes in real handy. Jorte is my choice for a calendar. Key Ring reduces the need for those thousands of plastic cards on my keys! I use My Tracks to track my walks (despite the gps issues, it seems to do okay). And I like TurboList for my ToDos. But the most important for me is Dolphin HD browser.

Thanks for the response CureMS!

I'm going to hit appbrain and check out those apps that you suggested.

Greetings and welcome to the world of Android.

I bought my Captivate the day they were released. I also have a Droid X. Its been lots of fun and a great learning experience.

You've landed in a great forum and source for your Android education. After performing the over the air update today, my Captivate is even more responsive and fun to use. The GPS issue is now fixed and I'm finding I like my Captivate even better than my Droid.

So I'm going to sell the Droid and enjoy my Android experience via the Captivate... :)

Have fun with yours.

Cheers

Thanks for all the input guys, I'll be checking out the suggestions you posted and will most likely be downloading some of them.

I do have a quick question, is there an app that will allow me to set different SMS tones for different contacts? I noticed it doesn't appear to be an option in the android OS.

Yes SMS POPUP is similar to handcent. Not sure if handcent is the same but i have sms popup. It will let you customize text tones for any number of contacts, also will let you set reminders incase you didn't hear the text come in. you can set it for every 1 to 15mins or to repeat until you read the text, also how many times it repeats. Its in the market. Hope this helps.
