How can the battery be this bad??

Here's how it can be this bad -- by the phone fighting with its own software over 1x signal. I look at my battery usage and everything except voice calls and idle is commensurate with the manufacturer's claims. Display usage is reasonable. 3G performance is good. No serious problems with the OS. But the 1x signal is coming in at -100dbm when it should be at -80 in my area. And that's what's using up the battery. Note -- my phone is normally on 1900MHz in my home market, your mileage may vary if you're in a market that's 800MHz only like many Verizon markets.

I've had my Droid for 18 days now. GPS, BT and Wi-Fi are toggled off unless in use. My screen is at its lowest setting. As of right now, I am at close to 9 hrs up time, and have surfed a bit, talked on the phone, and gotten and replied to numerous texts and emails. My battery is at 70%.

I have conditioned my battery (and will continue to do so once every thirty days or so as suggested elsewhere on this forum). I wait until I get to 20-30% charge and then re-charge. I will say that for two days this week I had to top off when I was around 50-60% because I knew I would be home late.

This is the best battery life I've had so far.

ok, so had to get my first droid replaced just days ago and with my new droid i cannot go though the night without the battery dying. Last night when i set it on the night stand it was sitting at 40% battery life that was at 11:00pm. I put the phone into airplane mode because i was in a low signal area and also stopped all running programs. work up at 7am and battery is at 5%. WTF!! it had no apps running and no radio to power with the screen turned off. How in the world did my phone use almost 40% battery just sitting there? Any suggestions?

BTW spare parts says that android system used 97.7 percent of the battery?? If i remember from my previous phone the android system rarely was the main user of power.

I have the same concern. I'm seeing the same thing. Android System is 95+%. I posted this question before and someone said that was normal but I don't buy it.

I'm not exactly sure what "partial wake usage" means but I'm guessing that it's not supposed to match up time. What I mean is if my Droid has been unplugged from the charger for 12 hours and I go into Spare Parts, the partial wake usage for Android System is almost exactly 12 hours. I would imagine it should be far less.

Can anyone who's getting great battery life take a look and see if they are seeing partial wake usage = up time for Android System?

In 3+ hours of time since unplugged (almost no use except one phone call and a bit of looking at aContacts), I've used <4 minutes of partial wake (per Spare Parts) for Android System, and all the others are down in the noise (Google is next at 17 sec). Battery 100%, 4140mv.

My big wins to help were a) switching from WeatherBug to the Weather app from Weather Channel, which also helped responsiveness and seemed to improve call quality, and b) uninstalling the network traffic monitor app (NetCounter). Note that I rebooted the phone as well, which seemed to help. I have Locale installed, but I haven't enabled any zones. Wifi on, Bluetooth on.
