9700 to Android

I recently, last Friday, made the jump from RIM! I went into Best Buy with intentions of getting the new Torch but once I saw the Captivate and gave it a pretty thorough demo the decision was an easy one. I have been a BlackBerry fan since I can remember. Some of the factors for me to make the switch are listed below in the "pro's" and of course with any new device there are some cons as well.

Pro's of the Captivate over BlackBerry
1. The screen. Simply put its in a different league than the Blackberry products. I love it!

2. The operating system. I think its great that its open and there are so many applications available for customization.

3. Swype. Actually this was my biggest concern moving away from the BB...no physical keyboard. It was a short, short learning curve but I cannot imagine how I ever got by without Swype! It is awesome!

4. The overall look of the Captivate. It is a sleek looking device!

Cons
1. Battery life...although its improving

2. Lack of case options, although I am sure this will be remedied with time.

3. I am experiencing the random shutdowns that many people have reported. I am sure hoping this one will be resolved with a fix in the very near future.

Overall I am very happy with the Captivate and look forward to diving into the Android world and learning as much as I can. Moving from the RIM OS to Android is like making fire with a stick and then someone hands you a lighter!

I'm also a longtime BB user and planning to trade my Pearl for a Captivate on the day I'm eligible for upgrade (Oct 7). RIM simply has not kept up -- they had the "cool" devices 5 years ago but they are falling further and further behind. I have not looked at the Torch, but I made my mind up a year ago to move to Android and now that AT&T finally has a decent one, nothing is going to stop me. I just hope the GPS issue is resolved by then.

I jumped on the Captivate Android Bandwagaon on the week before the Captivates Release. I was a BlackBerry user for 3 years. Now Im selling my 9700. A week later, the Captivate came out and I swapped the Aria out for the Cappy. Never looked back to BlackBerry. Even the Torch doesnt compare. I love this phone!

i'm coming from the same exact experience. curve 8310 to bold 9000 to bold 9700 - the 900 & 9700 were great phones and did their jobs, but honestly cannot hold a torch (ha, ha!) to what the Captivate and Android can do.

i was off last friday and was bombarded with emails while out of the office, jpg images from a renderer, pdf's from another consultant - both of which i had to review and forward to each other. simply put, if i were still on my blackberry i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have been able to accomplish these tasks anywhere near as easily or quickly as i did with my Captivate.

i'm loving this device - and after some froyo and a gps fix its only going to get better.

Yup 4 years on Moto Q Windows mobile with BB connect and my first Android phone. I am very very satisfied with this device.

First off i have a cappy, and i love it!! I made the switch from iphone no less, and don't regret it. Second my wife is a loyal BB user she's had two curves, 9700 and now the torch. She loves the torch but with any phone "jcp741" there are bugs or cons and pros. Her torch sometimes doesn't open up the apps tray, she had problems with phone calls for the first 30 sec of connection the audio of both ppl would cut in and out but, we've remedy that problem. This isn't to say my cappy doesn't have it's share of problems either, but i still love it!!!

Hahaha, another 9700 to Captivate user here as well! I love my 9700 since I can always depend on it to get the necessities done, but Blackberry isn't moving with the times. The Torch in my opinion and after some in-store testing...is a really weird phone. I think the Captivate will be my start into years of Android use and many more phones to come (even though I see myself buying out of contract a lot, since these devices seem to improve so fast).

Is 'cool' really a reason to buy a phone? No problem if it is, but it's entirely subjective; for example to me somebody who was closed-minded could never be 'cool'.

BB to Captivate user here. I have not looked back to BB and i dont miss my BB 9700 at all.

Seven great years as a very avid BlackBerry user / enthusiast.

RIM lost me with the decline in OS quality, stability, and migration from a front loading, easily serviced trackball, to a captive one requiring near total device disassembly of the Bold 9000. This combined with countless wasted hours trying the various "leaked OS's" over a full one year period was enough. Gave them one last shot with a 9700, but it was never the same.

Being a hard core phone addict, I'd been watching the Android project unfold. Jumped on the Droid, then Droid X & Captivate on the days they were released. Also grabbed an iPhone 4 just for comparison.

Now after some time with them, the Captivate has ended up being my favorite.

Same as me! 9000 to 9700 to Captivate, couldn't be happier!!! Well maybe with a 4.3 inch screen haha
