Droid vs. iPhone screen

I don't have either phones (yet), but I was wondering if anyone can comment on how the screens compare in bright daylight? A friend who has an iPhone told me he compared his to his friend who had a Droid and thought his iPhone's screen was more legible under the sun. Would this be a function of how bright the Droid's screen was set at?

I have my Droid's screen set to medium brightness (about 40%) and I haven't had any trouble reading it in sunlight. The screen is ridiculously crisp and bright, much more so than the iPhone's, so I don't know how it could be more difficult to read in the sunlight.

The guy must have had the brightness turned down on the droid, at full brightness it's clear as can be.


Of all the things the iPhone is better at, having a nice screen is not one of them. In this one feature the Droid wins hands down. Probably the best screen of any smart phone currently available. It's higher resolution and tigher pixel density and it's a realy beauty to look at.

You're correct, it was probably because that Droid did not have autobrightness activated.

IIRC, the Droid's default autobrightness setting is off, so most likely your iPhone pal was seeing a Droid with a relatively dim screen in the sun. Turn autobrightness on or crank up the brightness setting, however, and there's no comparison - the Droid is incredibly bright, even in direct sunlight.

both screens are fine in sunlight. the droid's screen is exceptional in resolution.

Even my brother-in-law who is a SERIOUS iphone fan boy has said a few times now that the screen on my Droid is sharper and more vivid. In fact he can't wait to buy yet another new one when the next model comes out as he is sure it will have a much better and much higher resolution screen..

Having come from an iPhone, I believe it performs better in sunlight than the Droid does. Even at full brightness, it can be hard to see what is on the screen for the Droid.

Aside from that, the Droid's screen outclasses the iPhone's in every other way.

my old phone was completely useless in the sun. however, my droid is completely legible in sunlight.

i know this isn't what you asked but i noticed the viewing angles on the droid screen are much better than on the iphone's. this is pretty useful when you're trying to show other people stuff on the phone.

Both screens are admirable. To me, the Droid screen is sharper and more vivid, as mentioned by a previous poster. As regards my overall opinion when comparing both, including ATT's netwon't, look at my handle. Says it all.

I was playing with an iPhone for the first time in a few months and was amazed how low resolution the screen was. I had to zoom in quite a bit to get legible text in the browser. On the Droid, the text is legible, if small, even when zoomed all the way out.

Droid... higher resolution, and it supports 24 bit color and i believe iphone only supports 16 bit color. (correct me if i am wrong)

plus the screen is super bright. probably one of the brightest i have seen.

The one thing I will say though about my Droid, that I love, the screen seems to be more of a fingerprint magnet, than the iphone screens of my colleagues - maybe I just have "dirty" fingers
