I switched to K9 after the default mail client started Force Closing on me regularly, even though I didn't like the fact that you couldn't pinch-zoom in the message view. I checked out their website and saw release notes posted for the next version, 3.2, and that was listed as one of the new features, so I started anxiously awaiting the update. It came this morning, and sure enough, there is a zoom option setting, disabled by default, so I turned it on.

Sadly, it does not work. I can only guess that somehow it is failing to detect that the Epic supports this, because it says in the settings "if your device supports it".

Bummer. This would truly be the perfect email client with that capability. I'm sticking with it regardless, because I assume it will get fixed eventually. I filed an issue about it on their project page.

It does work.. (@least on my phone) U hav to do it from in to out, not up to down...

Hmm, well, I sort of see that now, however, it is very flaky - sometimes it'll work once then stop until the message is left and returned to. It also definitely doesn't work when the screen is in landscape, nor does it even work if you rotate back to portrait - you have to leave the message and come back in portrait. So it's better than not having it at all, but it definitely doesn't work anywhere as well as say the xscope browser.

Thanks for the tip,

What othe apps are you using that's causing the stock email app to force close?

Maybe try doing a factory reset...

Well, it started right after I switched from using webmail on my PC to Thunderbird, so I suspect the stock email app does not get along well with other IMAP clients accessing the mailbox at the same time. Thanks for the info, but there's no way I'm going through the hassle of a factory reset, especially now that I can at least reliably zoom the message in portrait mode. I'm sure they'll improve the zooming at some point, and the other advantages outweigh that one negative (e.g. I like the message view in K9 better because of the font configurability). Maybe I'll give the stock one a try when Froyo hits.

Thanks,

Ok, I think I figured out the root of the issue. It will work in landscape, and works reliably, but ONLY when you are at the top of the message. While that's certainly not ideal, it's workable, and is likely something they vwill extend to the whole message eventually.
