So, I bought a right angle micro connected it really nice to charger, tinning and soldering power leads and shorting data leads, stress tying it, and even dressing it nice with heat shrink tubing. I didnt like the look or the possible stress from a straight in micro when the epic is in a car mount. I picked right angel becasue I was visualizing it in landscape or portrait.

That was a big mistake as right angle covers the 3.5 mm port whcih I use as I have a PIE to 3.5 mm male adapter for my car stereo.

So if anyone is interested I have found on ebay up angle micro usb. I have used this vendor before and gotten a decent cable (the right angle). I havent reveiced the up angel yet, bu the price is considerable less (1/3 with shipping)than the only other source I can find, usbfirewire.com

Usb A male AM to up angle 90 degree micro B cable - eBay (item 390255590008 end time Oct-29-10 01:20:31 PDT)

Looks like it will work right for cutting and creating custom charger from existing 700 to 1000ma car charger or for insertion into usb female of a charger which already has shorted data leads.

Go to USB Fire Wire Online Store, and order the Up Angle USB Micro-B cable. They also have down, left and right angle if you prefer.

I installed this to the back of the ProClip adjustable holder. Works perfectly, and looks like it was done from the factory. It takes all of a second to connect the USB to my phone because the cord stays right where I need it, and at just the right length.

You can either use a stick on cable holder on the back of the ProClip holder, or you can open the ProClip, snake the cable through, and put it back. With the ProClip adjusted to hold the Epic, it keeps the USB from slipping.

I bought my ProClip from Ryan/DPaddler (can't remember if one or two "d's") from this Forum, who gave me the link to this supplier and others along with a great price on the ProClip.

I would post pics, but I would need another camera to take the pics, and I only have the one on my phone. If this seems unclear, I can post a pic of the ProClip and cable without the Epic. Just let me know.

Howard: The one you link is insanely overpriced at $20 with shipping for a decent length. the one I linked is $7 with shipping.
Also if you read my post the right angle covers the 3.5 mm, something users may want to use at some point in a car.

The seller I reference for $7 shipped has over 24,000 sales with a positive feedback of 99.8%

Howard the up angle does NOT cover the 3.5mm jack.

That is the point of the first post on this thread.

The up angle I noted is the same cable and 1.3 the price of the one you noted, that is my pioint.

You seem to be commenting out of the blue.

My post very first post is about how
a) the right angle covers the 3.5 mm port,
b) but the up angel does not cover the port
c) How i have found a up angel for 1/3 the price of the one previously mentioned in other threads.

You seem to be reading no posts before yo comment?

wish they were on ebay when I did my setup. Up angle was nowhere to be found back then.

What's the best method of shorting the data leads? cable side or usb charger side? Haven't attempted that before but willing to give it a try if it can speed up the charging.

1) when I said 1/3 the price I want to make it clear I was talking about the cable, which you had previously mentioned but are not yourself selling, not your sales of the proclip -- of which I understand you are an excellent seller with an excellent price.

2) I did mine on on the cable. Whatever you do I would consider applying the data short in a location that is not subject to physical stress cycles Therefore it depends of one is using a charger with female usb, or if one is hardwiring the cable t to the charger (as you would if adapting an existing charger). If it is a charger with a female usb, I would try and open the charger and short in charger. that would be robust, although if you are not pulling the charger end in and out you could do it with foil. If it is hardwired as mine are, what I have done is
a) cut the extant charger cable halfway,
b) strip
c) cut the usb a end of the new cable
d) slide on a good 4' length of heat shrink tube
e) tie (for stress) lightly tin and solder red and black bedning them back in oppsoite directions
f) tin and solder data leads at device end
g) dress nicely with light e-tape and finish with heat shrink.

If you do simply alter the cable and put it back together, I would mark it with red heat shrink or red e-tape so you dont mistake it for a to-spec usb.

Updated link (so others won't have to search for it like I did):

Usb A male AM to up angle 90 degree micro B cable - eBay (item 230594257456 end time Mar-11-11 11:43:17 PST)
Search terms I used in case this link doesn't work: Usb up-angle micro-B
The Up-angle cable sold by USB-Firewire (USB Micro-B Cables - Right Angle, short cables - 877-522-3779) is a lot more, but is up-angled on the USB side too (I'll probably pay the extra to have the cleaner look and so I don't have to wait 3 weeks for shipping from HongKong on the Ebay auction).
