how does your handcent app work? when i used it, when ever i would restart my phone it would send out random messages to people. and i would get double messages from everybody.

Mine is fine, but you need to make sure you go into your default messaging app and go to settings and turn off notifications. Otherwise you will get a message on Handcent as well as Messaging App. That's the only explanation I can think of if it happens all the time. If it's occasional and not every time then it's probably a problem with towers.
There's no reason for it to send out random messages unless your phone has malware or a virus which is causing it. Download Lookout and run the free virus scan see if it finds anything.

ok yeah i had turned off the notifications, but i will try lookout.
when i had chomp sms, it wouldnt send messages right away and it would send two but i would have full service so i dont realy know whats up with those. i really liked the customization available with those apps but they keep messing up

i downloaded lookout and ran the virus scan and i had no viruses so i dont know why the handcent app or the chomp app didnt really work well on my phone

A. You don't need an antivirus.
B. What launcher do you use? I've seen problems with handcent and chomp when using the stock launcher.
