Long time lurker (thanks to all the contributors).

Now it's time to get the wife on an android with her Sprint. I would just switch her to Verizon, but it's a grandfathered employee plan that can't be touched. The only problem is we have to pay full price for phones.

The ones I'm thinking about are the Epic, Evo, and Optimus. I could be swayed in a different direction if the reasoning is good since I'm just comparing on paper.

Thanks in advance!

Here's my experience. Please note, this is my first Android phone...I moved from many years on the Palm platforms. YMMV, of course, and these are just MY opinions, based on MY wants/needs. I am NOT saying one is better than the other, just that one is better for ME than the others. :)

I looked at all three myself a week and a half ago. Actually, I just looked at the Epic and the EVO....after talking to the salesman, he recommended I take a look at the Optimus. I had two complaints with the Epic and the EVO...first, the 4g monthly fee I would be forced to pay, when I don't live near a 4g area, and I have yet to see a 4g rollout plan for Orange County, CA. Secondly, the phones are just a little too big for my tastes...but that is just me. Plus, most of the features that would drive a user to those phones, really didn't interest me a whole lot.

After playing with all three phones, I actually went with the LG. First, the LG, to me, is extremely responsive..I don't notice any lag moving from screen to screen, launching apps, etc. Everything works wonderfully for me. The EVO is a BEAUTIFUL phone...and if I wanted to watch movies on my phone, I would have gotten it. But I have a nice iPod Touch I use for movies. I don't intend to watch TV on my phone, so the screen didn't matter a lot to me. For what I wanted the phone to do, the capabilities of the LG for just fine.

Second, from the moment I held it in my hand, it just plain felt comfortable. The EVO was a hair too big for my taste, and the Epic a little too "bulky" feeling. But the Optimus fits my hand, and up to my ear, the best. I usually use a bluetooth, but for those times when I don't, the phone works great.

Now, the only downside I have noticed. The soft keyboard, even when in landscape mode, is smallish (I'm 6'3", and have bigger hands), and it makes me wonder if the added size of the EVO or the slide out keyboard of the Epic would have made it easier to type. I do a lot of texting, so it's kind of a big deal to me. Having said that, I am getting more used to the keyboard, and as I'm getting used to it, I'm gaining speed plus accuracy. But it's been a bit of a curve for me, though I am noticeably better after just 2 weeks.

Overall, I love the LG Optimus S...I'm still within the window to take it back and exchange it, but honestly, other than the soft keyboard, which I'm getting used to, I really don't see why I would want to change. PLUS...the price was a HUGE difference...the Epic and EVO are hundreds, while it cost me about $70 to walk out the store with a phone that fit ME perfectly, and does everything I need it to do.

I would suggest going to a Sprint store, and doing what I did...play with all three side by side, to see which fits he best. Like I said, the EVO is a BEAUTIFUL phone, as is the Epic...but from a price/performance perspective, I think the LG is a great little phone.

Hope that helps.

Ditto to what he said. My wife and I both have the optimus. I did a ton of research into the EVO, EPIC, TRANSFORM, and OPTIMUS. I cannot say enough good things about this phone. Dare I say it is the best phone I have ever owned! Very responsive screen, no lag, excellent battery life, android 2.2, option of swipe keyboard, not too big, not too small. Fits nicely in your hand, very fast internet browsing in my opinion even when compared to the higher end androids, decent enough camera and video, wifi hotspot for computers or ipod touches (there is a way to get around the sprint $30/month they want to charge you for the hotspot. Just find that in the forums). I have big fingers too, and the texting on the screen was a challenge at first, but I am pretty good at it now. I am getting used to not having a physical keyboard. The onscreen one is great! Whatever LG did with this phone they did it right. I would not be supprised if they got some "best of" awards for it. This is supposed to be a very entry level android, but for the money it is one of the best out there right now. Not nearly the amount of complaints and bugs as the high end battery hogging devices. I would get the Optimus and not look back! You will not be sorry with this phone.

I don't know what your budget is but I am in a pinch myself to come up with the rest of rent by this coming Monday so reluctantly I am going to gave to give up my 40 day old evo. I have the box all papers, charger, 8gb micro SD card, and a silicone case that is on it right now. I can even throw in a pair of white headphones that I know that don't match it, but what can I say I used to be an Apple fanboy until I converted to android. I am willing to let go of the whole shibang for $200 if you can help me out by sending payment ASAP via western union as I need to pay the landlord by Monday morning. I will also use the money to ship via FedEx so you will have it in your wife hot little hands by Tuesday. If your interested you can email me at crewchief227@gmail.com and then I can get your phone number or mine so we can communicate more. My desperation and your ability to help me will be a really big gain for you and to help me.

I just upgraded my son's phone to an EVO for XMAS, so his 6 month old Moment, which is in mint condition is available. $100 firm includes the phone, battery and wall charger. The phone is perfect and functions as new. The Moment is a great phone with the amoled display, 800mhz processor and has been upgraded to the latest firmware. It has been in a hard case since it was new (he gave the case to his sister who has the same phone...sorry). You can pay via Paypal and I'll ship it for $8 USPS Priority. I am a seasoned eBay seller (mostly Harley stuff now, same user name of aaazdaddy; all 3 of my kids names start with A, hence the name) with 982 feedback 100% positive, so no Western Union or Nigerian stories... I do have a brand spankin new one for $160 in the box...

BTW: It is a Sprint phone and has a clean ESN (important questions to ask...). Bob
