Depends on what you prefer i haven't herd about any new androids coming to sprint anytime soon anyways.........

the moment has a 800MHz processor wile the hero has 528MHz so the moment is alot faster.

The moment has Amoled screen witch is extremely vibrant and awsome wile the hero has a lcd.

The moment has a 3.0 megapixel camera with a flash(most people say looks just as good as hero's camera) wile the hero has a 5.0 megapixel with no flash at all so its pretty much useless in the dark but still a nice camera

The moment has a slide out physical keyboard but you can also use the on screen keyboard wile the hero only has just a on screen keyboard

just depends on your preferences i would goto a sprint store and play with both phones and see what you like

The Moment is Huge, the Hero is svelte. The Hero has Sense which adds a lot more user friendliness to the Android experience especially when 2.x now seems like a pipe dream for the Moment. The Hero is more likely to have timely updates than the Moment. The screen coating on the Hero makes it less of a fingerprint magnet. Hero may not be AMOLED, but the LCD has more neutral white and isn't skewed on the bluish green side. The Moment is a little snappier. If you are fine an on screen keyboard, I'd probably give the Hero a try first. You always have 30 days to try it. To me that's the first deciding factor. How well can I type on one or the other, or how much do I enjoy typing on one or the other?

The Moment is Large, hard to call it "Huge" that would be the T-Mobile Sidekick. The Hero is smaller, but not "tiny".

The Hero has a flashy UI, if you need it, it's great. If not, it's just added fluff.

Moment WILL be getting Android 2.XX the question is when, Hero is on the same road as this, first half of next year is the predicted date. Lotta folks like to over look that Moment and Hero have the same dates predicted for this release.

The coating on the Hero also leads to easier scratching, where as the Moment has a very scratch resistant screen. The oleophobic coating really cuts down on fingerprints, which are wiped off easily. Scratches, on the other hand, do not wipe off.

The Moment is faster than Hero in every aspect pretty much. And gets bogged down rarely, where as Hero can get bogged down easily just switching programs quickly with programs running in the background.

The Moment has a brilliant AMOLED screen, which does have a blueish hue, but it is not so bad that you or anyone else will notice it unless you are really looking for it. The AMOLED screen is really amazing, just hold it next to a phone with a normal screen, like the Hero, and you will see the difference.

I loved the Hero the first few days I had it, than really began disliking it. I have never had a physical keyboard before, so the Hero's virtual keyboard I felt at home with, however after switching to physical on the Moment I will never go back. Just something nice about haveing a real keyboard with nice feedback. And if you want the Hero's keyboard you can get something very similar off the market. You can't do the reverse and get a physical keyboard.

Personally I'd advise AGAINST Hero, at least untill they get quality control under control. There is a major issue with there being a gap between the screen and the keypad. This gap allows dust and other particles to get in under the glass, after only 2 weeks I had a very visible amount of dust under mine. There is no way to get the dust out without disassembling the phone. Just think of longevity of the phone, how bad will the dust be in a year?

Aside from that, the Hero is nice. SenseUI looks great, and adds some really nice widgets. I just can't advise a person to get a product with such a large flaw in it.

This is not to say that Moment is without it's bugs. Read around this forum and you will find them.

I have not heard any news of new Android phones coming to Sprint as of yet.

sorry, but Sense is not all fluff and flash. I pointed out a few things in the Hero vs Moment thread, and it's a shame they don't quantify somewhere the things Sense adds in general. Without Sense I don't have the ability to move email to folders or report spam. Visual bookmarks is very nice as is the mp3 player widget. Neither are something you can duplicate from the market. The increased # of homescreens. 3rd party replacements are slower (open home, panda home, and such). Multitouch. Standard T9 on the dialer which again, is faster than adding in a 3rd party solution. Also something that Android should do natively. Too much reliance on 3rd party solutions for things that should be standard on a phone. There's other things, but that's just off the top of my head.

Dust in the Hero is a manufacturers defect and covered under warranty for a year. You can legally replace it as many times as you like for FREE until you get a good one. That should be the least of your issues against buying it.

That being said, I own both. I use the Moment as my phone simply because I prefer a real keyboard. I prefer truer whites on my screen, and I notice it. Some are just more sensitive to it than others especially when you've had phones with better white balanced screens. The Hero isn't without its merits though, and ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

Not sure what's coming to Sprint, but there's been rumor of the HTC Espresso which is a slider version of the Hero. Can't wait to see some leaked pics when it becomes more of a reality.

Whoa there killer...

I think having to take a phone back to replace, even if it is free, is a big deal. And is a deal breaker.

I get the feeling you are jaded in some way by the Moment. Pretty much all that you post is derogitory toward the Moment.

SenseUI being fluff or not is an opinion. You have the opinion that it is somehow game changing, I feel it is not.

Moving Emails is done through HTC's email app, not SenseUI itself.

Multitouch can be added with updated Android. Yes, Droid lacks it, this was however Motorola's doing.

Why all the hate for 3rd party? I, and many other Android lovers, feel this is the point of Android.

Different strokes for different folks...as you can see....

Go try them both out and you will soon, inevitably be drawn to the device that suits you best.

(sorry for the wordiness. just starting rambling and couldn't stop...haha)

One, I don't hate 3rd party. Have used 3rd party apps on a mobile device for 13yrs. But to be called a smartphone there are certain things that should be native to an OS that have been glaringly omitted in Android and webOS. They've been watered down for the likes of Google and 3rd parties are expected to pick up the slack. And frankly 3rd party options are all a little lackluster. That being said, CalWidget is my favorite 3rd party app as it puts my agenda on my homescreen to keep me in touch with my appts. And it's more info on the display than I had in PalmOS and WinMob.

Whether it's part of Sense or just part of HTC's upgraded experience, HTC just gets it where Google doesn't. They've added certain functionality to the Hero that makes it a more complete smartphone. Sorry if I lumped it all into Sense by mistake. We'll just call it benefits of HTCs Android experience. Along those lines let's also mention local outlook sync. Again, they get it, and Google needs to catch up. If they are things that become native in 2.x, then it'll be a long wait of dealing with sub par 3rd party options until that update is available. When a company is in the previous year and says 1st half instead of 1st quarter, that usually implies it'll be closer to the end of the 1st half than within the 1st quarter. That's just been my experience when promises like that are made.

We are talking dust, right? It won't give you cancer, fry your phone or delete all your info. It's something you might or might not experience, and if or when it becomes enough of an annoyance, you can walk into a Sprint store, pop out your card, and walk out with a new phone. I've had the Hero for a few weeks longer than the Moment, and I don't have dust. Not everyone does. QC issue, yes. But I'm sure it's getting improved upon over time.

We're in a Moment subforum so I expect jadedness towards other phones. So I'm just pointing out some pluses towards the other side. The guy is trying to make a decisison between the two. I have 14 sales reps that asked me which one I'd go with before they chose. I gave them my Hero and Moment to play with and said you tell me. Told them I chose the Moment with the only two reasons being the keyboard and it's a little zippier. Some had the Hero and switched, some had the Moment and switched. For me? I don't care about videos and pics having more pop. I care about the clarity of black text on a white background. And when it comes to picture quality, contrast is much higher on the determining factor list than depth of color. I like reading text on the whiter background of the Hero. I noticed a difference when I went from my original black Centro to the 2nd gen soft touch finish one. It was the same sort of screen issue where the original was like the Hero and the new one like the Moment.

As mentioned, different people have different needs, and to dismiss certain features as trivial and others as dealbreaking is an opinion. So for him to hear different opinions is a good thing. What's trivial and dealbreaking to you is quite the opposite to me. I'm not jaded against my Moment. My choice was based on two preferences, a hard keyboard and zippier processor. Nothing more, nothing less. If anything is derogatory it's against Android, not the phone. Physical attributes such as the physical size and off color screen are my only two real negatives against the phone, but the speed and keyboard were more important for my daily use, so...

Your posts are derogatory towards the Hero, so I just went the other way with it to point out it has positives and is not an overall inferior choice.

I will say I like Moxier for Exchange support on the Moment compared to HTC's program. That becomes moot when they're upgraded to 2.x though. I just hope Google's native app works as well as Moxier does.

And on the 3rd party side. Something that is native and built into the ROM will more than likely run smoother than a 3rd party app in RAM that might run differently on different phones, kill one phone when updated to work on another and so on.

Lol, I'll admit to this.

But that is because Hero didn't live up to my expectations. I'll admit to being jaded, as I put it.

And it is not the dust that bothers me. It is the fact that it is even getting under the screen that is the problem. HTC's quality control should have picked that up in the first place, the phone was rushed it would seem, and if it was I suppose Hero owners should be grateful that that is the only design flaw. And it's not quite as simple as you put it.... I know I spend quite a bit of time arranging things, and customizing the look of my phone how I want it. It would be a hassle to have to keep redoing things.

On a side note, HTC should have never let Sprint change the look of the Hero, the original is pretty slick looking

the chin has a certain panache, but I don't think it appeals to the masses. I think the chin would get on my nerves if it was sitting in my pocket pulling against the fabric or pressing into my thigh. That would just be worse if it was in a hard case. Plus it's a pain to create accessories for like car cradles and such. It just can't slide in like normal phones. And I don't disagree on the QC. Kind of a dumb thing to let slip by, and if I was using it as a phone, I'd be running in there every time a saw a spec of dust and demanding a new one, just for spite...haha. Since mine is a wifi only device, I don't know how that would work warranty wise. I am peeved I can't update it unless it's on an active line.

Screen is glass. Just without the coating that makes it less of a fingerprint magnet. It is easy to take to the Moment's keyboard as well. 2nd nature after a day or two of typing.

You setup a credit card when using the market.

As far as bugs and such on the moment, just go to the sticky at the top of the page about issues. I don't seem to have many phone specific ones. More Android OS issues for me. Or it's just early, and I can't think yet.

I have big, long fingers that are a little bit rounded on the ends... which makes using an on-screen keyboard a problem for me. (mash, mash, mash away) The keyboard was what truly sold me on the Moment, and after looking into the processor, the screen, and the fact that I found out that I could pretty much add everything the Hero has (pretty much, not everything) into the Moment. For instance, I have the perfected Hero virtual keyboard on my Moment, and it's glitch free. That combined with the Moment's physical keyboard, typing bliss. Granted the home app you'll have to download, and no it won't ever (currently) be as smooth as the Hero's. The home widgets go hand in hand with this, as some of the HTC home widgets cannot be re-created as far as I know.

In short: Apps, widgets, and other quirks can (mostly) be duplicated and put on both phones. The choice for you is basically which you feel more comfortable with. I have big hands, and a bigger phone is better for me. Yes, I follow the perfect American stereotype, 'Go big or go home.'. And I live up to it. =D Rambling again...

Summary:
Get what you feel is best suited for your needs.

im gonna probably go with the moment the hero screen and dust thing turned me off from the phone...

I'm just going to say that the Hero does have dust issues, but very few phones have the issue. I don't believe the phone scratches any easier than the moment, or that the screen is noticeably different (my Mom has a Moment, and I can't stand the thing).

The hero is far more customizable. There are more settings that can be toyed with, and Sense UI is freaking amazing compared to stock Android. The fact that it has a slower processor is a negligible difference. There's the occasional lag, but it happens on the moment as well. Besides, Android is designed to be customized and messed with, so it's always worth digging deep and tweaking everything you can on the thing. My Hero outshines my Mom's Moment without a doubt.

What's it called? Where can I get it?

Go here. Then search in through for a post from a person named "deckard67". His post includes detailed instructions on how to do it, what to download (with links), and be SURE to install the last linked file. That's the file that enables you to calibrate the keyboard when it's in portrait QWERTY mode. -Note- One thing you'll have to deal with: the suggested word pop ups. Sometimes they cover up what you're typing. You just gotta get used to that. I have, as it's 400% better than the stock Android keyboard.
