Help Poor Battery Life?

Trying the Samsung S for the past 3 days - coming from N1.
So far I am pleased - elegant design, lighter, slick Black look, fits in N1 pouch, beautiful screen.
However, with moderate use the battery lasts 12 - 13 hours maximum.
At 8-9 PM the phone is dead.
Everyone is saying that the battery is actually better than most Android phones - so is it my phone? Am I the only one with battery problems?
Any suggestions?

When I check the battery usage I see about 40% of it went to SCREEN - although I set it up to minimum brightness.
I am using NOLED - does that use a lot of juice?

Also - if you could suggest a good battery saver program THAT WORKS it would be great.

I am getting a bit worried - wouldn't want to give this phone back but battery is an important issue.

Just curious, what was your battery life on your N1? What kind of settings did you have and what did you have running? Is your usage and setting on your NS the same as your N1 (set up and all). My N1 usually only last for 12-14 hours with moderate use.

It's possible that NoLED is causing the extra drain. My Nexus S generally shows the screen to cause about 20-25% of the battery drain, so that 40% figure seems high to me. How often is NoLED showing notifications do you think?

I've been planning on seeing how NoLED affects my battery life, but I'm waiting until I get a good baseline to compare it to before installing it.

Perhaps you should try uninstalling NoLED for a day and see how your battery fares then.

Battery life on the N1 would definitely last 18 - 20 hours - moderate use.
I pretty much have the same settings, besides Noled (uninstalled it for the day).

To give you an example,
I wake up in the morning and check my mail and surf the web for 5 to 10 minutes, battery goes to 92 % or so.

Well I am starting to think that Noled basically takes the phone out of sleep mode (in fact you don't have to hit the power button to awake the phone, but the home button...) so it drains the phone battery much more than when the phone is asleep.
Having said that, honestly I didn't feel like I used Noled a lot in the past 2-3 days. Still the screen usage was above 40% (Used to be above 50% on AUTO BRIGHTNESS settings).
I uninstalled it for the day let's see what happens....

besides that, if anyone has a good battery saver program let me know

Are they all this bad?

The battery monitor goes onto the screen, about 33%

Today, unplugged from charge at 7am, the battery is nearly dead and its hardly been used today at all.

The only thing i have running really is WhatsAPP,

Is there a better battery you can buy?

The battery on this thing is shockingly poor. Any significant use sees charge plummet. Its a sprinter that makes my WinMo 6.1 device look like a marathon runner. I make sure the screen is never on when the phone isnt in use, brightness is low, the gap between email syncing is as large as possible, and just about get a day from a full charge with a little browsing, some texting/emailing and maybe 20 minutes gameplay. Avoiding gaming today has got me 40% discharged battery in 15 hours since full charge.

I understand this is typical of android devices, though.

At first yes but the battery gets better after about a week of use. I'm not entirely sure why this is like that, I assume its stabilizing or whatever you want to call it but my battery isn't as bad as it was fresh out of the box

You have to give it time to stabilize, its not going to be that bad after at least a week from the date you first plugged and unplugged it. The battery life gets better over time. Also check through manage applications and running services to see what is using your battery.

Perhaps how you charge your battery has an impact on its life. So far mine has been excellent, and I've only ever used USB power (from a Belkin hub) rather than the wall-wart.

coming from a vibrant, i'm super impressed with the battery life of my ns. i used to have to start charging my vibrant 4 hours into work. with the ns, i don't charge it until the next day.

I'm super impressed with my battery life, coming from HTC Desire where I struggled to get 8/9hours out of it. I have yet to see the Nexus S anywhere near the 'red', getting over a days use with moderate/heavy use.
