Thirded on that. Works fine till I try to restore.

The first time I saw the backup/restore script that Trident so graciously made for us I thought "How thoughtful! but no thanks." I dont flash a rom without wiping everything thoroughly. Screw a backup, that shit was yesterday and Ima android cowboy!

I am a newb to all of this. Do I have to root before velocity or is velocity the root. I'm confused. Please don't cuss me.

Welcome Newb! and best of luck with your Ally! I know someone already told you you would need to root, but you'll also have to install a custom recovery before flashing a custom rom. These forums will prove quite helpful in doing so!

I go into terminal emulator to overclock the kernel, and it never stays at the number I set it at. it defaults back to 600mhz. Anyone else have this issue? I also get three messages saying it could not create scaling max freq, up threshhold, and sampling rate, it also permission denied after each one. It doesnt seem to apply the oc. Am i doing something wrong? I didnt reflash the old turbo kernel because I didnt think we needed to. Help!

When you pick a frequency via the script it asks you if it should set that frequency upon each boot. Did you say yes to this? The 3 error messages sound like it failed to set the frequency at all though...and permission denial leads me to believe that terminal emulator does not have root privileges. Did you su first? before running any scripts I type "su" to give the terminal app root access.

Is it possible that 0.4 just won't work on some Allys? I tried and tried and tried and on about the 4th complete wipe and re-install I did get it to fully boot, but I was having all kinds of weird things going on. Apps force closing. Taking 5-10 minutes to re-boot. Apps not installing. Random re-boots. Apps not starting. Extremely slow performance.

Like I said, I wiped, re-wiped everything etc. and I do know the proper way to install a rom. I just install 0.3 again and it works perfectly.

P.S. I also thought of the fact that I may have had a corrupt download or something and redownloaded 3x.

Shit man I dont want to say this but....mmmmmaaaybe? From what I've read it seems that not all Ally's are created equal. They can't all be OC'ed to the same speed and all. I've only had 2 Ally's to physically work with and both have taken quite well to Velocity .4. Only one is overclocked and I had to try and error it down to 787mhz. I don't want to discourage you, so I suggest re-partitioning your sd card, without swap, even if you didnt use a swap part before, the new part table might help? And if that still doesnt work try another sdcard, or repartition your sd card without an ext part and see if its stable then. Itll be slower (maybe) without apps2sd but if its stable that way then Id replace your sd card.

I keep getting 'kernel panic' errors and the phone reboots. I haven't overclocked or anything. Only flashed this ROM, and none of the extras.

Eek! really?!? I had alot of KP's when I was tinkering with overclocking. Hate to repeat myself in the same post but have you tried repartitioning your sdcard? fully wipe everything?

wallpaper issue happens sometimes after using the browser, sometimes after facebook, sometimes when wake while charging..very intermittent...as far as the dalvik cache, i was using it with darktremorz app2sd i was using until i flashed vel. 04 with darktremorz apps2sd, it was /system/bin/a2sd cachesd...with punisher i think it was just a2sd cachesd....heres the punisher instructions:
FOR APPS2SD YOU NEED TO:
1. BACK UP YOUR SDCARD TO YOUR PC
2. BOOT RECOVERY
3. FORMAT SD:EXT
4. WIPE SD:EXT
5. PLACE FILES BACK ON PHONE
6. FLASH ROM, IF ALREADY FLASHED SKIP TO 7
7. BOOT INTO ANDROID
8. START TERMINAL EMULATOR OR ADB SHELL
9. TYPE SU AND PRESS ENTER
10. RUN A2SD CHECK
11. RUN A2SD CACHESD

the apps2sd thread instructions:
#ls -l /data
(look for a line that shows dalvik-chace if it does not show:dalvik-chace -> /system/sd/dalvick-chace, then its not going to the sdcard)

Mine doesn't show that, how do i fix it?

Not sure if anyone answered your question. BUT Punisher uses Darktremor's apps2sd script which supports moving dalvik cache to sdcard. Same as Raptor. Velocity does not have the option to move dalvik cache to sdcard. (AFAIK)

2. Some people fell it it is not a good idea to move dalvik cache 2 sd. Which maybe why its not included in velocity.

Also not sure if you saw this in the original post

-Dalvik2Cache - the dalvik cache is automatically moved to the cache partition for more space in the data partition

Have you tried flashing the kernel provided in the origanl post that does not have overclocking support on top of velocity v0.4? See if that will help your woe's.

Some people's phones just cant handle the overclock kernel at all. As said above each phone isnt created equally.

If you are getting an error like that. It's clockwork's fault. See the ADDITION section of this post for two options to fix.

I tried it with the card both ways, with and without the EXT partition. Re-formatted, everything. I mean, I literally worked on it for hours trying all sorts of things. Good thing we had a Linux machine at work.

I have a class 6 card on the way from Newegg. Maybe that's it.

Do you have astro?

Open astro, hit settings, then more, then preferences. Scroll down and put a check in enable browser downloader.

Open astro, then press the key next to your home key, the one with the four lines on it. That will open up a new menu across the bottom of the screen. Then press the down pointing triangle where it says more. That will bring up more options. The top option is preferences. Tap that. Then on the screen it takes you too, scroll down until you see enable browser downloader, and place a check in it.

Then you should be good to go.

This is great got the swype beta working and themed pink and black, smooth and fast. I spent an hour ninjamorphing framework.res.apk and I even changed the lock screen to look like the metal buttons and black bars from the alternate dark theme for v0.3 since the theme wouldn't apply. All around great rom thanks for all the new and hard work, this works well.

Ok so my first real issue of V0.4. I guess I'll start at the beginning. My favorite psrt of these updates has always been finding out how the youtube apps have improved. I must admit this latest version, with the rotating screen, that was pretty sweet! So the first time this happened I was in the facebook app that I got from the android market, pressed a youtube video and when it gave the option to open in browswer or youtube app, I choose youtube app. Then it happened, force close. Since then it hasn't open at all. Immediately when I press on the app to open it from the app drawer, force close. So I tried all sorts of things to try and make it work again but nothings working. I said oh well I just installed this I'll reflash, maybe a bum install. Things were going well until I accidently pressed the camera button on the side of the phone. Then bam force close when I hit the back button to exit out of the camera app. Then like before it won't open again, force closes every time. I tried to uninstall it but that fails. Is there a way to uninstall it and if so can I find that apk to try to reinstall maybe to the sd card? Anyone who stuck around to read all of this, and maybe has an idea or thought to any of this, please, don't hesitate, to elaborate.

It's just "cpu" no hyphen or quotations.....just cpu.
