Well there's been a lot of people waiting for this and it is currently confirmed to successfully root newer phones. Last I heard, however, the beta was recently closed but expected to reopen soon. So those with newer models and looking to root, keep an eye on the unrevoked page and their twitter and you'll soon be rooted. Enjoy.

Update: Here is the link if you want to check it out. This is still in beta testing! If you are not feeling daring, just wait for the "official" release - it should come soon since it sounds like the beta is going well.

Update2: changed the link to the current one (thanks ovrrdrive).

unrevoked3 v3.30-rc3 beta testing

It didn't work for me. I have the 2.10 HBoot. Hopefully it comes out of beta soon and works for 2.10!

EDIT: I did notice that the bootloader now shows S:Off on my phone. Does that mean that all I need to do now is install a custom ROM and I'm fully rooted?

Is there a good stock rooted ROM out there for the new update? (I basically only want root to delete bloatware and run wireless tether; other than that, I'd like my phone stock).

Thanks!

Thanks!

The question is do you have a recovery method installed??? If not, then the answer to your question is "No"! You can't flash any custom ROMs without a recovery. Have you tried installing root only apps to see if they work? You might be in a "soft root" state which might allow you to use root only apps

I'm a newbie and finally rooted my Hboot 2.02 and got the superuser icon :) with the new Unrevoked 3.3 !!! What are the settings on the Evo phone for tethering and hotspot capabilities ? Are the settigs the same ???

Best place to start is to download the android tether app from the guys that have been doing the google code thing... it's on the Android Market and called "Wireless Tether for Root Users" You don't use the Sprint app.

YES! Downloaded the BETA (beware!) unrevoked and ran it, worked like a charm on my /Stock Sprint 3.70/BL 2.02/HW 0003 EVO.

I like how someone in another forum said "Rooting will forever change your relationship with the device." So true, the moment that unrevoked said "done" it is like the device changed ownership from Sprint to me. It used to be Sprint's gadget with my phone number on it, now it's my gadget with Sprint's account on it.
