Accessories Bluetooth Keyboard

Well my 30 days is almost up so I am going ask one more time (sorry mods).

Has anyone succesfully linked a bluetooth keyboard to the Captivate yet? I know there are drivers for certain keyboards out there, but have read where it does and doesn't work. None of the keyboard can be found at traditional B&B stores and I don't want to drop $100 on somthing that won't work.

I would be very interested to know this too. I know I will be wanting a physical, external, full sized (or close-ish) keyboard. I would accept either bluetooth or USB, but would prefer to have access to either.
Also, if it is indeed a viable option to add such a keyboard, it would be good to get some suggestions on a good one.

I have looked at this one before. The website says "SPP Profile - Used for connecting to BlackBerry's and Android based phones. (Note: Android drivers are currently under development). "

I don't want to take an $80 plung to see that it doesn't work.

USB keyboard would also be great!!

I have had a horrible time finding blue tooth KBs and controllers for the captivate. I have tried 3 different ones from Fry's (I cant remember the brands) and the Zee mote. Thanks to Samsungs proprietary Blue tooth system on these phones, many blue tooth HIDs and controllers are not compatible.

I have been able to pair my Palm 3245WW bluetooth keyboard to my Vibrant. This is a HID keyboard. However I have not been able to get it to connect using the BlueInput driver. And the KeyPro driver is not for HID.

It took a long time to figure out how to get it paired - Put kb in pairing mode & scan for devices on the phone. Select the kb to pair to. When the message to input the 4-digit code appears, put in whatever you want and then put in the same 4-digit code on the kb and press enter. This should get the two paired but not connected.

When I scan for HID keyboards in BlueInput, it gives me a bluetooth scan failure. That's as far as I've gotten.

Yes!! Freedom pro emailed me a file, because captivate AT&T would not let me download it for "security" reasons. I loaded the file to my phone with the "Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine". The drivers loaded instantly. Then I followed the instructions on a UTube video! Walla! Capt Mc

I'm thinking about buying a Captivate and have the same question as the OP. Could someone here with a bluetooth keyboard (HID) download "BlueKeyboard JP" the free version, and try to pair your keyboard? I can get that to work with my Xperia. With this app, you go into Language and Keyboard (I think that;s what the settings location is called) and select BlueKeyboard JP as an input method. Go into the BlueKeyboard JP settings and select the keyboard.

^ There is a possibility that he used the keyboard with his phone rooted, so keep that in mind.

The blogger's only real concern with the keyboard was portability. This caused him to buy a Milestone for its keyboard, only to decide he enjoyed the Captivate better.

I have both a Captivate, and a Freedom Pro keyboard, and overall I am fairly pleased. I didn't root my phone, I sideloaded the app in via my computer, or, rather, my roommate did because my computer was down at the time. It works. It seems a little awkward and "ghetto rigged" in my book, but it works, most of the time anyway. I have had to restart my phone a couple of times since I got it because occasionally I couldn't get the keyboard to respond. Right now I think I am going to have to reinstall the drivers because it is persistently stuck now (seemingly no matter what I do) with the "disconnect" button on the drivers settings page, even though the keyboard is not connected (according to Android bluetooth page) and won't type.
Actual keyboard is nice and compact. 2 irks though: 1. Not suitable for putting in one's lap, because it folds in the middle (hotdog like) and has a "lock" to hold it strait, but it has far too much give to it. 2. Shift+space switches between english and korean, both of these are too often used for this. Seems like they should at least give me a toggle in the drivers to turn that feature off. (IE, select which languages to toggle between, with the option of having only 1, leaving it doing nothing).

*edit just got it done. Got my Freedom Pro keyboard this morning and was able to use the AC Sideload Wonder Machine. Took forever to figure it out though. So far it works well. Now I got one of three things fixed on the Captivate. Now moving on to the next.

I just purchased one this AM from some company in Cali, I am hopeful it will be plug and play. Its a fold up like I had ~ten years ago for my wired Palm 105. I'll let y'all know how it goes!

Edit: I have a samsung captivate AT and T and its a bluetooth, dont have the order info in front of me but I will post all that tomorrow AM.

I've been using an Apple Wifi Keyboard to keep a journal on my iPhone 4, and having just added a Nexus One to my collection, wanted to use the keyboard there too.

The solution I'm testing uses the Blueinput driver (available as a demo on the Android Market). It connects OK and I can use it as my input device. The one snag I have is that my keyboard has Norwegian characters, while the driver handles the US character set.

Apple keyboards cost about $80. They are light and nice looking, i.e. not clunky The Blueinput driver is around $10 (a little bit pricey in my opinion)
