Migrating from OD to DX

I have an Original Droid and the digitizer has failed. The Gorilla glass has cracked. The phone still works and the memmory card is good. It is rooted and I have my apps backed up to the memmory card. Including Rom Mangaer and Titanium backup.

I bought a used droid off of eBay got a deal because it did not have a memmory card. I was going to use the chip from my OD. Do I need to do anything? Can I just pull it from the OD and then put it in the DX?

What chip are you referring to, the memory card? If so, then yes, you can use it in your "new" Droid X. Though I would back up all files and folders to the computer, format the card in the X, then move the files and folders that you want back to the card.

Yes the 'chip' you refer to (SD card) is universal and should work in practically any device that takes a Micro-SD card. There's one thing the cell phone industry is at least doing right. I'm sort of surprised that they are to tell you the truth. They usually like to make things unusable from one device to the next so that everytime you buy a new phone, you have to buy EVERYTHING all over again.

This made me so mad one time when I had my Curve and my fiancee upgraded from her little Blackberry to a Blackberry Bold. I took the battery out if her old phone and was going to use it as a backup in my Curve because it looked like it was exactly the same size. But when I went to put it in, the charging pins were off by like a tenth of an inch! Then I took the battery out of her Bold and compared it, all 3 were basically the same size and width, but their charging strips were all in slightly different locations. Now tell me for what other reason would they do such a thing other than just that we have to buy a spare if we want one. No using the one from our old phones.

And Motorola is no different. I discovered that the battery in my ex's Droid Pro is the same size as the extended battery for my DX. So I took it out to see if I could use it if I wanted to. No dice, charging pins don't line up... figures. Every time I get another Droid they want me to have to buy a new spare battery, new dock, new chargers, new everything.

So I'm at least glad they don't make the SD cards all kinds of crazy shapes and sizes that only fit the phone it comes in. I've also noticed that it seems as if most OEM's are finally starting to migrate towards a universal charger. The Micro-USB charger that the DX came with seems to be what companies are adopting as the standard now.

If only they would stop making every blasted battery different for every other one.
