Accelerometer Control - ANDROID (Droid)

Hey guys,

First Post... Please go easy

I have looked and looked and looked and I cant seem to find anything that helps me control the accelerometer more then either having it on or off.

Its a little picky, so I need help calibrating it as well as seeing if there is a way I can designate it to only work in certain programs. If there is no way to do that, is there a widget that will allow me to turn the accelerometer on/off that I can download (if so whats the app called in the marketplace)?

I am not aware of a way to turn on/off your accelerometer. Are you having an issue with the screen rotating too often?

Yes, even setting it on a level table causes it to turn... It really sucks in the morning when my alarm goes off and I pick up the phone to click snooze and its turned and I click dismiss instead...

I would turn it off but its a pain to turn back on (navigating through all the screens) when I want to turn a damn photo or view my browser in landscape.

There is a free widget on the market place called AutoRotate OnOff.

Place the phone flat on a table, rotate it three times. Place it on its side and rotate it three times. Place is on its end and rotate it three times. That's the calibration sequence.

Oddly enough, calibrating the accelerometer also seems to help with locking more GPS satellites. This was mentioned in another thread about GPS accuracy.

That calibration is actually for the magnetometer, though, not the accelerometer. So, if your compass is off and/or you're not getting good GPS reception, the magnetometer calibration will help that.

Thanks I guess... but my question was regarding calibrating... According to the original post you liked to that little spin maneuver is for the gps... not the accelerometer... Good try though. *tosses knuckledragger a cookie*

After I went back and re-read the help section in the GPS status program release notes I saw that it calibrates the magnetometer which helps with the compass and GPS but not the accelerometer which is used to detect rotation of the phone, hence my follow-up basically stating that I was wrong about it helping your issue but wasn't just making up some random garbage to mess with people.

I know this is an old thread, but figured I'd give it a try. I was searching google for this very issue and found this thread. This has actually bothered me from day one. Do other modern devices suffer from this problem. How about the gadget from Cupertino? I find that when I put the droid down on a table it roatates almost every time, which I find annoying. I don't want to turn off rotation as I want to use it for maps and the browser. It would be ideal if I could set it up so it only rotated fro certain apps. Is there a way to do that?
