People complaining

Funny how Apple can have all kinds of half baked features and few complain. It could be argued iOS is half baked compared to Honeycomb right now. I find Honeycomb to be fluid and so many more features than iOS. Also many things both OS's have work better in Honeycomb. Voice control being one the browser being another. Anyone ever used Voice control on iOS it stinks. Also yes believe it or not IOS has been known to freeze and crash.

The browser is so good I don't need an App for say New York Times on Xoom I just go to the website directly. For the record New York Times app for ipad crashed my ipad weekly then became unusable. The ipad app also featured less articles than going to the website directly.

As far as Xoom being unfinished the features that are unfinished 4g, sd car, and flash are not even going to be on ipad 2. So at least can look forward to getting these soon.

No one should talk about shortcomings or half baked when the pad didn't have multitask or folders for 7 months. 7 MONTHS.

My car has had plenty of recalls and parts replaced. People should not be early adopters if they cannot cope with some shortcomings. I can't tell you how many times I had to reboot my Apple 2e, buggy as hell.

Bad example Cars deal with safety tablets thats a no. Now make the tablet a primary 911 location device and we would get all kinds of free updates.

Why do we always have to bring up the iPad?

I think it is totally legit to bring up the iPad in comparisons to the Xoom or any android tablet right now. In terms of the "tablet" market it is the clear front runner in consumer popularity.

You and I both know that the Xoom is superior to the iPad is so many ways its not funny. But most consumers are sheep. Following the herd and bleeting baaaaaaaaapple. Plenty of non sheep will buy android tablets because they are tech savy enough to know a better tablet when they see it. But for the Xoom and android tablets to not just survive but thrive we will need some of those sheep to put their money in the right spot.

So yeah, we bring up the iPad to compare to so the sheep can be educated.

I'm pretty shocked that asking for compensation for being a beta tester has met with so much resistance and irritation. Is that such a foreign concept? Sure you can just wait or live with it. But I prefer to participate. I just think I'm entitled to something for doing so. Like maybe unlimited data until 4G and Flash are delivered as an example. Call me crazy.

I don't know why you feel that way. These shortcomings were publicized. You should only be compensated if you aren't getting something that was promised to you when you bought it. When I rolled into the Verizon store, they told me about all of the things that would be coming online "Soon (tm)."

The $429 16gb wifi ipad clearly competes with the $800 xoom. People dont need 3g, contracts, or the extra 16GB of storage. That's why the 16gb wifi ipad out sells the other ipads.

Really?
Speak for yourself, I need the 32GB of internal storage.
AND I NEED the 3G.
And most importantly, I want the Open OS of Android.

I'll pass on ANY product that requires me to sync everything thru iTunes.

I'll pass on ANY product that requires me to sync everything thru iTunes.

Why's that. Movies work FLAWLESSLY off of iTunes. I have a 32gb iPod Touch (3rd Gen) that I use to play Digital copies of Blu-Ray's that I purchase. I know for a fact that if I buy an iPad, I can plug it into iTunes and sync ALL my movies with no issues what so ever. Can you do that with your Xoom? Didn't think so. I don't have to reencode or any of that BS. Guess what, Apple products just work OUT OF THE BOX. The average user will not have to scour the webz to find out how to get movies working on their iPad. This is what you guys don't understand. Simple user options is what the general population wants.

Why would you think we care about this? Most here are computer enthusiasts and enjoy tinkering on things like this. Open source, open platform, my dream come true.We make things work, that's our legacy.

I agree. That's what I LOVE to do as well BUT the general population (aka the Joe Blow consumer) does not care about tinkering like we do and just want a device that works out of the box and the iPad does that for them and quite well. This, Apps and the price is what will keep the iPad at #1 in overall sales.

If you checked my Bio, you'd see that I edit video for a living.
Video encoding is not a hard or complicated process.
In turn, my video quality far exceeds that on other products.
If you want Apple products, go buy them.
Microsoft, go buy them...
Don't bother calling me biased,
I do all my video editing on MAC.
Macs are great for video and audio work.

ANDROID is the same for all of MY mobile tech needs and geek tweaking.
Imagine that...
I tweak audio and video....
I DEMAND the same capability to have customization options etc...
And I can't get that from Apple.
I have several reasons why I choose Android, and the first word that comes to mind is FREEDOM.
Android will remain in my life hence my forum name because Android has made such a GIANT impact in my life, that its here to stay. It is here to stay.
You buy what you want and think will fit your needs,
As I will do the same.
Freedom of choice...
I pick the best for my needs etc....

I feel some of you have really crossed the line here in this thread.
This forum has rules and they are very straight forward.

And another thing when any product comes'out including Mac products there are bugs that need to be addresses or features that need to be added its common among tech products if you think different your kidding yourself that's why every platform has updates that are pushed I remember when the I pad had problems when it was first release as'for movies all I do is plug my USB in drop the movie i want into the xoom folder and that's it no tickerimg or anything... I think people don't give enough credit to the average consumer now a days everyone goes nline when they buy a product to see what they can do with the this g its not the 1950s anymoere

Everybody take a step back and relax please.

It is okay for users to voice their complaints here, that's what this forum is for. To expect something in return from Moto, well that might take it a bit far, but by all means users are allowed to point out what they don't like.

This was a great discussion up until recently, please don't continue at this rate.

For the record, making post after post calling someone a troll and harassing them is doing more damage to the thread than the arguably legit complaints of said accused troll.

Thanks for understanding.

Well this post has lived up to its name People complaining[/B ] I on't see why someone can't accept that others prefer a device which does what its suppose to do right out of the box. And others should accept that the Xoom has so much potential to extend past the limitation of IPAD because android is open. This is all common knowledge nuff said. The thought appeals to me to have a apple phone which just works and a tablet to tweak and optimize. On the other hand it further appeals to me to have a tweakable android phone EVO and a solid tablet i.e. Ipad. We are very blessed to live in this day and age where we can argue over such trivial subject. Maybe this thread has gone on too long.

If that was the case, just a complaint thread, you'd have 5 people saying the same things over and over. A thread like this needs 'another side of the argument' . And further I don't think much of a complaint when the person complaining hasn't owned one of these bad boys.

That being said there are "trolls" who have nothing better to do.

Dude, are you serious. Of COURSE video editing is easy for you, for the average person, iTunes is great for adding movies to their tablet. Xoom nor Android has such an easy way to add movies. That's like me saying "it's easy to root the Nook Color just because I can do it".

Rooting Nook = 5th grade education. Come on give people some credit. You think you are so smart for some reason?

I highly doubt that. I can give a Nook to my family members and the websites and they still would not be able to root it. Alot of people are not technically inclined (as I have a side business building and maintaining PC's). I also Root Android Phones and Overclock GPU's (for gamers). There is enough of a market out there that people are willing to pay for these services because they you know CAN'T do it themselves. I don't think I am that smart, I just know that there are not alot of technically savy people out there.

BTW - Getting people to understand and use ADB (or a command line prompt for that matter) is NOT 5th grade material. Sounds to me like YOU think you are smarter than everyone else.

Rooting a nook is a 15 second affair. All it requires is getting the image written to a sdcard and boot with it.

Once you download the image file, you run

dd if=image of=/dev/sdXX in Linux

In windows, they have apps that do it for you w/ point in click.

No ADB involved. Pop in the sdcard and boot. Thats it.

None of the rooting I've have to done requires any work. Revoke for the HTC phones are incredibly easy. Galaxy S phones only require a file on sdcard at boot.

Installing Ubuntu and setting up an X-server on an ARM device requires much more work.

Editing video is much more complicated and actually requires skill. Rooting is code-monkey stuff. Google this and google that.
