Root How to install ICARUS 1.1 by Isaacj87

Are you sure you wanted to send me that reply? I sent message #468. My problem is at a very early stage of the installation. I can't complete Step #4. Thanks.

It's still on the original Metro APN after reboot.
I'm going to run a backup then delete the original APN and see what happens.

OK I'm not going to do that because the original cannot be deleted.
So I'm going to try this again.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow the instructions for the original post if your using icarus 1.1 and here is the updated for the one bit I did research on this will fix the mms problem I have personally done a test and it works.

To set up your data the easiest way is as follows:
-Activate voice dialer
-Say "Open APN"
-hit okay okay to open the APN
-Click on your current APN to edit the settings or activate the menu and create a new one
-Enter in these settings

Proxy: wap.metropcs.net
Port: 3128
Username: your number@mymetropcs.com
Password: metropcs

The other settings I just left them how they were.

I need help fixing mine. I followed the steps in post
3 but no luck.

Here you go

Its pretty straight forward, but I have recently received a bunch of mesages from people asking me how to set up a data connection for cricKet on Android, so here are the steps.

Settings>Wireless Controls>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>

From there select the default APN probably simply titled Android

From here we plug in the settings that we would with Windows Mobile:
Name: Cricket (Doesn't Matter, More for Labeling Purposes)
APN: Cricket Mobile Web (Doesn't Matter, More for Labeling Purposes)
Proxy: wap.mycricket.com
Port: 8080
Username:10DigitNumber@mycricket.com
Password: cricket
MCC: 310 (This is the default value)

I would assume you would make the following change for cricKet, as you would in the PST settings, but when I save, the APN deletes itself. Please test on your end. Data WILL work if you leave setting at default. I just think this could be the one setting preventing us from authenticating with google.
MNC: 00 (Default Value is 995)

Everything else I left as is. This will get data running but WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO ACTIVATE YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT. This has to do with the proxy (I think). If you know a way around it, or further settings to change please make me aware so I can update.

Menu>Save

Then stop and restart the modem.

At this point you should have an active data connection. If it doesn't work RIGHT after the stop/start of the modem, give it about a minute.

I have not tested any MMS settings.

I'm doing this on a Huawei Ascend (Cricket) and Eclair 2.1. USB-connected computer is Windows XP. Re. Step 4 (below)...
I can't get past "Waiting for device". when running "install-recovery-windows.bat". Have tried updating Android driver, as well as uninstalling driver and then reinstalling.

Any idea why "fastboot-windows" can't find the device on USB?

Am I correct, you are not having a problem w/ it already on, your trying to install Icarus 1.1 right now?

It looks like your trying to install CWR onto the phone so that you can flash Icarus. The thing is, the instructions you are following to install CWR, I couldn't use either. It is WAY easier to just install "Android Terminal" app and install CWR from the Terminal.

IF this is what's up. All you do is make a directory on the SD card called "Recovery" (oh, you have to be rooted by the way). Then you need 2 files flash_img and recovery.img They are linked around here somewhere, it's just really early (4am) and I can't find the link. But then with terminal you just type:

$su (enter) - (This gives superuser privliges to terminal)
#mount -o remount,exec /dev/block//vold/179:1 /sdcard (enter)
#cd /sdcard/recovery (enter)
#./flash_image recovery recovery.img (enter)

The flash will take all of 3 seconds

Power off the phone.

Holding the UP Volume button and END call button and then the power button will boot your phone into recovery mode, with the phone off. You will have to hold these three for 5-10 seconds min. it'll blink a little and then boom, you'll see CWR the green text.

I hope that helps with what you are doing. I realize it's useless without those files. PM me, if you can't find the link with an email. I'll send them over....

Good luck.
Jeff

Ok, so i installed the Icarus 1.1...way better than the 1.0 in my opinion.
Except for one small problem. I am not able to install apps. When i go to the market and click. the download runs and then it tries to install. but says installation unsuccessful. Any idea about what might be causing this? Everything else seems to be flawless! Thanks in advance for your help

Go to the phone settings.
Applications.
Market.
Tap uninstall updates.
Restart the phone with the SD card out.
Open market.
Wait for market to update again. Just open it every few minutes untill it goes from grey to green themed.

HELPP!!! i followed every step on here but the phone got stuck on a never ending boot loop:( tried shutting it down and going into recovery mode like it said for installing icarus 1.0....but i couldnt get to it!! dont know what to do to fix it:/

OK. Believe me, I can totally understand the frustration. Now, PLEASE take NO OFFENSE to this but, the first thing we need to do is slow down, back off and get the details up to this point step by step, as the post just dosn't give enough info to know what's going on...ok? Alright, I'll list some of what we need to know:

1. Are you in the process of trying to put Icarus on for the 1st time?
2. If so, why Icarus 1.0, instead of 1.1 which is the fixed/updated version (I think you meant you were just following those instructions, but probably had 1.1??)
3. Did you have ClockWork Recovery installed (the correct version), or is that where this happened?
4. Right now, if it's totally powered off and you turn on, it goes to the boot loop?
5. Did you get ClockWork on, and then this is happening when you tried to install Icarus?

OK, Get us that info and we will go from there and don't worry, relax a little, the group around here I'm sure will help get you going.

NO responsibility for what happens, but without knowing anything, I'll toss out something to try, I guess it can't hurt.
**Try Power off (even if you have to pull the battery), remove the SD card and try to boot. See if it will boot without the SD card in. IF (Remember given what I know, this is a Hail Mary), but IF it does start up, let it start up totally, shut down properly, put the card back in and start up again.
Again, That is a total hail mary considering that I don't know any details, but it's just something that seems to be going around alot, so IF you at the position I think you might be, this COULD work. But, fine print, "try at your own risk"

Although as Tokenpoke once put very nicely "This phone is damn near unbrickable"...LOL...meaning worst case we can get you back to stock and try again, but for now:

Let's get the details of exactly where you are and go from there
OK.

Look forward to hearing.
Spyder/Jeff

PS: If it takes me a bit to get back, today(Saturday) I will be out the majority of the day, but if there is a response when I get home at night I'll take a look. Meantime, just patience is a virtue.

Looking forward to getting you going. I see this is your first post, so don't worry, you came to the right place.....

All the best...J

Earlier I used Terminal Emulator to reinstall a2sd and when I did I got a lot of force closes. Then when I rebooted everything was set back to default and Android Market wasn't working so I reflashed ICARUS. Now, when I try to do the same thing it says "Your partition may be using an EXT4 partition, but your rom may not support EXT4. Repartition your SD Card to use EXT2 or EXT3." Please help!

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, but yes I was stuck in a boot loop. Pulling battery and sd worked just fine. I installed it once before but i couldnt get my mms to work so i went stock, but Icarus 1.1 is so cool I couldnt stay away from it. So just now I installed it again and I see there is more mms replies so lets give it a second go! Thanks for all the help :)

These settings work wonders with the other settings from the thread. Thanks for all the help peeps. Icarus 1.1 is freaking great. I dont think im gonna use the 2.2 update when they release it. :D

My Ascend has been rooted and flashed with Icarus 1.1. ClockworkMOD recovery v2.5.1.8 has been installed, and all was working fine using the Icarus Mod. Then I made a Preference change to Launcher Pro, and restarted the launcher. The launcher never started, and I've been stuck with a dark homescreen and no capability to launch any apps.

After many reboots and no visible means to recover a launcher, I decided that I have no choice but to restore a full system backup I hade previously made with ClockworkMod. However, to my surprise,
starting the unit by pressing and holding Volume Up, Call key, and Power doesn't get me to the Clockwork screen like it used to (after keeping the buttons held for a long time). All it does is restart a normal boot, which again returns me to an Icarus bootup, minus a working launcher.

This seemed very strange to me, so just to be sure, I re-flashed the
CWM Recovery from the zipfile, and that worked like it's supposed to (by holding down the Volume DOWN, End Key, and Power Button).

Unfortunately, even after recovering CWM, the proper starting key sequence still won't boot into CWM. I know that I'm pressing the keys properly, as I now have lots of experience with it.

I'm wondering if this represents some kind of a hardware problem. If so, if I want to either exchange or replace the unit, I'll need to return it to factory state. But I can't do anything until the hardware allows me to flash a ROM.

Any suggestions?

I have installed the icarus mod 1.1 and i love it. But when i plug it into my pc it charges but not connect. And i cant locate my debugging option it disappeared. What happened?

So... during this step: - Press back until you're in the main menu of CWM. From there, choose "Install zip from sdcard." Then, select "choose zip from sdcard." Find IcarusMOD and flash it. DON'T REBOOT YET.

I uhh.. realized that I didn't copy the ZIP to my sd, I copied the EXTRACTED FILES to my sd... and now my phone does nothing but stay on the white Huawei screen forever... is there a way to somehow get the ZIP onto my SD so that when I go back to Recovery Mode (If I even still can) I can just select it like I was supposed to do?

I'm quite saddened for myself for making such a small, but such a HUGE mistake =/

Hang tight September! Did you try removing the 'nfcache' per the instructions above?

You have to reboot afterwards but then you should be able to install the drivers.

Plug your phone back into the computer and find the Icarus zip file in your downloads on your computer. Right click on it and select 'send to' and select the F disk (your SD Card) or whatever it is called on your computer. That will put it in your SD Card.

Then it will be there for you. Try that and see if it works for you.

The thing is, my SD Card isn't showing up on my computer... it's as if my phone isn't plugged into my computer at all.

Did you click on 'my computer' and look to see if it's there? Try plugging it in (the USB) and then turning on your phone. Also, turn off USB debugging.

Well I can't turn off USB debugging because my phone doesn't even turn on past the Huawei screen. And yeah I checked on my computer and it's not showing up... =/

Allz I need to do is put the stinkin' ZIP on my SD card! Ugh :'(

Okay...go ahead and turn it off, take the battery out for ten seconds or so, then reboot and follow the directions to boot it into recovery.

You will have to start over but now you know what to do and what not to do. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

:(

Sigh..

Okie dokie then. Will do. Thank you very very much for being patient with me, I very much appreciate it.

This same thing happened to me.

Did this conversation ever continue??

My phone is stuck at the white screen.

Then you need 2 files flash_img and recovery.img They are linked around here somewhere, it's just really early (4am) and I can't find the link.

I am looking for these because I am stuck at the same step. Would someone kindly share the link with me?

Thanks. Looking forward to trying this out

Please disregard.
I am dumb. was using the wrong key combo...doh.
Got it installed no problems. Works great

I ran into a few snags that were my own fault. This guide is top notch, and works like a charm.
The mod is fantastic. So much faster then stock metro.
Just want to say thanks again!

This same thing happened to me.

My phone is stuck at the white screen.
Can anybody help??

I really think the words "DO NOT UNZIP ICARUS 1.1 before putting it on your sd card" should be added to the post. Such an important step and its not mentioned.

have you tried a card reader or any thing that accepts microsd as a workaround?
Naw I havent tried it. I dont own one or have much money right now. This is the second phone this has happened with. Today I realized that youre not suppose to unzip the icarus file before putting it on your sd card.

Huge step.

I tried reflashing but the computer doesnt even recognize my phone at all it just sits at the white screen.
