Help Xoom and Hotspotting?

I am using the Xoom to replace my MyFi on Verizon so hotspot is key.

It's not an app per se like on a Droid X, but a setting in the Networks:

Settings > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering and portable hotspot

You enable it there and can use USB, Wifi or Bluetooth to tether. You get to name the SSID for Wifi and select your own PSK or 'Pre-shared Key' for WPA-PSK encryption. [Note that I had to reboot once to get it working first time- you hold power and up volume until it restarts].

Enjoy. Let me know how it's working? I wonder if my Xoom sleeps and I put it in my briefcase while the laptop is tethered does it still work? Have not had any real time to experiment.

I've used it seems bit to tether my laptop, and it stays connected when my Xoom is sleeping and in my bag at my feet. I generally turn the screen off manually, and don't get any interruption in service.

How does that work? I've currently got a Mifi w/ Verizon, but when I checked on upgrading it to the Xoom (just online...not at a Verizon store), it said upgrading would require a plan change, which I don't want to do, since I've got unlimited data grandfathered in at a better price than what it's currently offered.

Verizon doesn't charge any fee for using a Xoom hotspot since that is one of it's intended uses - they just deduct data used from your Xoom data plan. On the negative side an unlimited Xoom plan isn't offered.

Is that true? I was going to hotspot Saturday but realized I am on the cheapest plan and I figured that I needed a higher plan. Are you positive or should I contact Verizon?
