Setting contact ringtones - help please!

Hello, I'm a newbie who has just got herself a HTC Desire HD.
I'm trying to set a ringtone for a contact, so I put some music onto the phone (probably not the way you're meant to but it worked!) and I'm on the song I want to use, selected set as contact ringtone but it doesn't bring up any of my contacts to choose from!
When I do it the other way - by going into the contact itself, you can only choose from the ringtone list, not from a music file.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
Cheers :)

Hello Annie,

You could go the `Music` folder > navigate to the song you want to use > Then hit `Menu` > `More` > `Set as Ringtone` > `Contact ringtone` and choose whichever contact you want to associate that ringtone to. It's odd that it doesn't seem like they give you an option to just choose it from the contact route but this way you can associate a ringtone to several contacts in one go.
Hope that helps.

Cheers,
AndroidFreud.

Hi Annie,

If AndroidFreuds method wont work for you, you may like to try what I did.

I decided to make a few ringtones from MP3's I had. I then copied them to my phones SD card into their own folder in 'My Documents' called 'ringtones'.

Now, strangely enough, when I select a contact and choose a ringtone for them, it includes the MP3 ringtones I placed in the 'ringtone' folder in 'My Documents' on the SD card (I repeat myself a lot, I know) as an available ringtone.

Hope this helps you out.
Cheers.

The same trick works if you make an 'alarms' or a 'notifications' folder on your sdcard :)

hi annie, i am not sure whether did you manage to set the ringtone but i believe under people application - options - ringtone. that's how i set my ringtone for friends. also you have to install an application call astro or any other folder management like application to help you manage folders like ringtones and wallpaper.
