Got my Samsung Droid Charge from Verizon. Awesome phone except is it really true....you can't check phone or emails addresses from your corporate exhange server Global Address List. That is really a problem...I work in a large company. Colleagues with Droid II and Iphones can do it. My old Samsung Omnia could handle it flawlessly. Are you kidding me....I'm returning the phone if its true.. What a bummer great device otherwise.

Yep...I do have the corporate email account added and I do get my messages. However, no ability to search for email addresses or phone numbers of others in our Global Address List of more than 20,000 employees world wide. Saw something about installing an app called Corporate Addressbook

I am able to see all entries from my corporate exchange address book. I just start typing in characters in the 'To' field of a new message and it drops down all the matching names from the address book. Is this what you're referring to?

When entering in the "To" area, it does indeed start suggesting names....but simply those in my Contacts list......no way to get to the many others working in our organization without manually typing the entire email address. My colleagues with Iphones and Droid II are able to simply look up in our company global address list the phone number or email address of anyone that may not happen to be in their current contact list. Very helpful particularly when traveling to contact someone you may not normally/frequently reach out to.

I dont have the charge, but i do know Touchdown allows gal. If you like the charge and want to keep it and dont mind spending $20 of course. There is a fully functioning free trial version that should give you time to at least see if it works for you.

If you really like the charge, its worth a shot before returning it imo. I would use touchdown on any device anyhow no matter what the stock app can do.

Damn...that is a bummer. I have a D2 and it does indeed search the GAL when you start typing an email address...it's quite fast.

There are replacement Email apps in the market, I think free and paid - you might want to try one of those to see if it works for you on the Charge and supports GAL lookup. One is called "Better Email" if I remember correctly. Not sure how well they would fit into the Charge software setup.

Touchdown is an option, but I was not very fond of its UI...<ick>, but that's a personal issue. :)

My wife is considering getting a Charge, and works for an even larger company and won't be happy if GAL lookup is missing. Thanks for the warning...

I just tested this out, it does search the GAL when you start typing in the name/email of the person you're trying to reach. So no dissapointment at all there.
I'd say that the corprate email abilities of this phone are easier to use/setup than they were on my WM6.5 phone. I'm happy with the stock abilities in this area.

Thanks for checking - you're sure it's checking the GAL, and not pulling from your own address book (if you've added any addresses from the GAL to your Outlook address book)?

Do you know what version Exchange sever your company uses? 2007, 2010, or ?

Yes, I made sure it was pulling from the GAL for sure, typed in someone that I have never emailed or have on my contact list and they pulled right up.
I know they just upgraded our Exchange server, I remember hearing something about 2010, so I think thats what it is. When they upgraded it, my WM6.5 email got a ton of extra features which was kinda cool. Almost wish I had the same features, but I really didnt get to use it for long before I got the Charge.
I'm actually impressed with how quickly it pulls up the names you're looking for on the GAL. The WM phones require you to go through a couple of steps to get the email addresses if they're not in your contacts.

That's good news...maybe requires Exchange Server 2010/2007, possibly, and those on earlier releases don't support GAL...thanks for following up.

After reading this tread, I initally thought mine wasn't working; however, I tried it again and it was working. When I thought I had the same issue, I was only typing in one letter of the persons name because on my other phone that's all I had to do, but on this phone I typed in a couple more letters and the person's name/email popped up. I tried it on people that I know I have never emailed before and it worked.

Not sure if this is the same issue you are having or not.:)

We are using Exchange 2007.
