Hello everybody. I am new to this, so I have a ton of questions. I need some help understanding the Lingo here. What is a Gingerbread or a ROM and all those .304 type numbers?

What can my new rooted Droid do that my unrooted Droid could not do? Are there any aps that I need to get now that it is rooted? I will stop there with the questions for now. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks

Joe

a ROM is the same as an operating system
the numbers with a . in front of them are the build numbers for the ROM
Gingerbread is the newest build for the DroidX, previous to that it was FroYo (Frozen Yogurt)
Your rooted droid will do the same thing as an unrooted one, the only thing that is different is what YOU can do now. You can access more files and adjust more things when rooted
Good apps to get are:
Titanium backup
Droid2 bootstrap
Angry birds (j/k)
quadrant standard is fun to play with also, you can see how things change your speed with this.

Heya Joe!

Thanks for taking my advice and posting here. You'll find really nice folks here, who are very helpful. Let me shoot first...
1) A rom is basically an operating system as opposed to a theme, which is generally colorizing and spiffing up with cool icons, a rom (operating system).
2) 340 is the system number for the froyo rom 2.2.1 (the roms go cupcake, donut, eclair, froyo and gingerbread. This is similar the the windows names windows 95, windows 2000, windows xp, vista and windows 7).

There are cool apps for DX root users you can look at here: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...orite-root-applications-updated-5-3-11-a.html

Keep asking questions! :)

If you can find it (Steven loves moving things around)check out RoOolers guide. It has some of the best info and can answer a lot of your questions. What it can't answer, well, come to us.

Nothin but love for ya Steven.........:)

Roooler had removed his guide thread information. What we have left is a link to his site. You can find SBF information there U D G

Bear in mind that some of his links to the files (rsdlite 4.9) don't get it for you. So, you can do a search for the file on google. Let me google that for you. Let me google that for you :)

So, I worked it out that he left us a link and he gave us a linkback on his site. Thanks for the love. :)

Your best option is getting the TBH app from the market. You can't get gb from the market. And this is a first I know of with someone having the dx2. I would imagine it would be the same process as the dx.

Next you wanna look up RoOolers guide for your rooting and flashing needs. Come on in and ask some more questions when your ready to give it a go.
