Sync data between Android Tablet and Android Phone

Hey,

I don't have an android tablet (hopefully soon though) and was curious if there is a way to sync apps and app data between the two devices, for example:

1. download angry birds on both devices
2. Play first level on phone
3. the two devices automatically and continuously sync and when I pick up the tablet, level 1-1 is shown as completed and everything.

I figured you could probably use titanium backup to accomplish this, but it wouldn't be thoughtless and would require a lot of work transferring files all the time.

If the apps happened to store their data out on the cloud then I could see this as within the realm of possibility. If not then you'd need a means of manually sync'ing this data to some other device.

In theory this might also be possible if both devices were connected to the same network (WiFi for example). That said I do not know of an app that's able to do this... at this time.

Short answer.... no there is not. AFAIK, ther really isn;t even way to sync data between the apps you speak of running on the same OS (ie Angry birds data from android phone to android tablet) easily.

Like martimus said it... if the app supports syncing, it would be possible... like my notes app, it has sync options, so when I changed my phone, all I had to do was sign in and the data updated its self

Cloud storage is becoming more and more popular. Especially as smart mobile devices become more prevalent. Your requirement is a valid one and something that I think will be doable within the next year or so.

Obviously the tradeoff is privacy. Do you want all your data stored somewhere on the cloud where it might be vulnerable to theft? Kinda like my account info on the Playstation Network...

I actually had this same request and couldn't find anything to fill the gap. I'm writing something myself but its going to be difficult to do to say the least and trying to test will be even more difficult because there are so many different phones and so many different types of tablets now. If you would like to preregister to beta test please e-mail me at youngstownguy@gmail.com . I am looking for users that will test as well as give me input of how they want the software to work and what improvements can be made. I'm starting off slow with just a simple text and phone sync but will try to get more indepth with application sync as well. Let me know if you guys have any ideas you want to implement. I think something like that would have to be built into the core of the OS. We don't even have anything like that in a desktop OS at this point. If I set up templates or something in Word and move to a different computer, that's all done. Chrome OS does something like that, but it stores ALL your data in the cloud.

Sugarsync is supposed to sync automatically. It actually did for me for like a day or so and I was incredibly impressed. Then it broke for no reason and I haven't been able to get it to work since then.

Firefox 4 has a scheme for cross syncing bookmarks and contacts between devices through the ether. Maybe some ideas can be found there.

There is a messy way to do this IF you have root access on both devices. Use an app like My Backup Pro to back up just the data for your app(s) to their online backup server, and then "restore" the data on the other device. That's not exactly an every day solution, but it would allow you to sync apps occasionally.

This would be an awesome feature that should be built into the OS with an API for apps to use.

I think Google will still work on interface issues primarily first for Ice Cream sandwich though. Just my opinion.

Hello all,

First of all, I'm sorry for digging this thread up from it's grave, but I figured that this would probably help those that initially posted here. (I hope they're still around)

I was looking for an app that would do exactly what has been described in this thread and couldn't find one, so I decided to write my own. The result worked so well for me that I hoped it could help others as well, so I published it on the android market for free. You do need root though.

DataSync pretty much does what has been described above, it creates a little backup stored in /sdcard/datasync and sends that to the other device. Once that other device receives all the data it extracts the backup to the proper location. It's pretty easy use (in my eyes), but if you have any questions or perhaps a suggestion, please e-mail me!
