I am not sure if I can help but let me ask a few questions maybe it will get you closer.
When you try setting up your mail to sync is there a limit on how many you can do?
If not do you just put in your account info and passsword and it errors?
What is the error.

Actually, I just was able to add the account using this ..

"This does not require Yahoo! Plus Mail, the paid service of Yahoo! mail.

1. From the home screen, pull up the applications tab (at the bottom of the screen)
2. Touch Email
3. Touch Manual Setup at the bottom left corner
- Select the IMAP option
4. In the incoming server settings, enter the details as follows:
Username: XXXX@yahoo.com (enter your complete yahoo email address)
Password: enter your yahoo password
IMAP Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 143
Security Type: None
IMAP Path Prefix: leave blank
5. Touch next to continue to SMTP Server Settings and enter the details as follows:
SMTP: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 587
Security Type: None (Checkmark

Meaning I have to open the mail app and click refresh..
I get what your saying, so it isnt like gmail with its sync.

Sorry I dont know how to change that.
I dont have that phone yet I have the optimus M.

When I first turned on the phone I had the option to add accounts, I have gmail so that is what I used, but I wonder if you put a yahoo account there would it work?
The next and only other option I could think of would be to link your gmail to your yahoo, through the gmail control panel it would then forword your yahoo to gmail telling you you have mail or something like that.
Then that should in theory give you instant notification to check your yahoo.

there is an option to keep it synced maybe it got turned off.
I keep mine turned off unless or until I need it because it drains my battery faster.

Do you think you could explain that a little better..Its really starting to bug me lol
Sure if you press menu go into settings then go to accounts & sync it says background data, with check box make sure its checked,
Then it says Auto-sync and that needs to be checked to keep it synced that is the one I turn off when I dont need it.
and last under it it says manage accounts and shows my gmail and at the moment says sync is OFF.

Oh just fyi I have a power control widget that is stock nothing I downloaded, it gives me wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync and screen brightness all on one easy to use panel so I dont need to go looking for them.
long press of my screen widgets power control.
