I am not a developer and could not develop an app if my life depended upon it, but I have an idea for something I'd love to see.

I have a TivoHD that is connected to my home network via wifi. So my Droid and Tivo can be on the same network, I'd love to be able to move Tivo recordings directly to my Droid, rather than to my computer (via TivoDesktop) jus to skip a step.

Any ideas?

Your tivo actually contains an embedded web server that actually serves video files directly if you connect to it. Try pointing your web browser to:

https://<yourtivoip>

HttpS is important as it uses an SSL connection, and you'll need to determine your tivo's IP address. The username is "tivo" the password is your MAK or Media Access Key, which you can find out by going into your tivo central under the settings menu (the exact location varies by software revision, but it'll be under there somewhere.)

There is one little roadblock however. These videos are wrapped in DRM, and need to be decrypted. This can be done using a program called tivodecode. Tivodecode has both a windows and linux port.

Given that android runs on the linux kernel, I imagine this can be ported to an android phone (the sources are available) but you are going to have to either cross compile it for whatever model of phone you are using, or you are going to have to port it to java and build an android APK package out of it.

Alternatively you can hack your tivo to not encrypt the videos to begin with. Details on this can be found on the dealdatabase forums, which unlike what the name implies, is a community of tivo hackers. I'm a new user so I'm not going to link it directly at risk of it potentially being interpreted as a spamming attempt, but you can google that name and you'll surely end up in the right place.
