However, I have a nandroid backup of my earlier unrooted 2.1 with all my stuff in tact but when I try to recover it says Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb and I have NO IDEA what that means...any way I can get back to there? If so, I can re-root and reinstall xtra sense and then LEAVE THE SetPCU ALONE
I am going to go out on a limb and guess that you had a fairly low battery. Nandroid restore will refuse to run on Amon_RA recovery if the battery is below a level I can never remember (
25%? 30%!). If user Scary Alien is watching this thread, he may pop in to let us know the exact percentage.
OK, I have the phone working, re set up my mails, just missing contacts and a couple apps. I have those contacts/apps in that nandroid backup...any way I can bring them in to my existing xtra sense setup???
Nandroid restores are a lot like restoring Ghost images on a PC - it just brings back a snapshot of what your phone looked like at the time you made the backup. I suppose it would be possible offline to extract the images from a Nandroid backup (hmm, perhaps a challenge for another day?), but it's not exactly trivial. If you want to get data from a Nandroid backup, then you need to restore your phone totally and get the data that way.
By the way, in the future your life will be *much easier* if you have all of your contacts on Google. That way, whenever you factory reset - or, say, buy a new phone - your contacts will resync with Google and automatically re-appear on the phone.
So, if your Nandroid restore problem was due to a low battery, your could try this:
- Restart in Recovery
- Nandroid backup what you have
- Wipe data/factory reset (this is probably redundant, but I always do this before I do the next step.)
- Nandroid Restore what you had before
- If that still fails, then Nandroid restore what you just did and just go on from here
- Restart the phone
Now, if you are able to Nandroid restore successfully, then you may not want to bother going back to what you just set up, since you have everything set up just as you want.
It's an interesting question about whether clocking the Eris up with SetCPU will increase throughput in wireless tethering. My own guess is that it would make no difference; that and throughput limits are not due to the Eris being CPU bound but more to limitations in the actual hardware. Still, if you are going to try SetCPU, just make sure to leave the set on boot box unchecked until you are absolutely sure that the phone is stable.
I was using the wireless tether(xtrasense) and turned up the set cpu while downloading to see if it would increase kbps...now it just continuously reboots...won't stay up long enough to access set cpu to turn it down...any help??
Though you actually don't need to reflash the ROM - just wipe data/factory reset and restart the phone.
