So How Does the SGS2 Hold Up Against iOS5?!

As an ex-iPhone user, I'm looking for some opinions on how the iPhone 4 w/ iOS5 stacks up against the SGS2. What features do you want. What features is iOS5 missing?

I didn't see very much at all in the iOS5 presentation today that I can't already do with my SGS2, other than the auto backup of apps/settings/files/etc. If Google introduced that (which really isn't difficult) then nothing that Apple showed today is at all revolutionary.

They made the OMG IT'S THE GREAT ALMIGHTY CLOUD stuff seem so great...but Android can already do most of that. (of course not the music part though.)

Notifications from a pull down menu...I really hope Google's got the lawyers ready!!!

(Although I'm sure Apple have found a loop hole somewhere to allow them to make a BLATANT copy!)

I liked the sound of individual "X" close buttons on the iOS5 notifications. Unless I miss something, we can't get rid of individual ones, only clear them all.

Someone's playing the catch up game! Tbh, open source>closed source because it's under constant scrutiny (from the entire developers world) and hence it develops faster and better, eventually. At Apple, they have email complaints, but at the end of the day, they're gonna be doing what earns them the money, not what's best for the people who actually buy the phone.

iOS is still playing catch up with Android when it comes to features. It still doesn't have things like live widget, voice to text search, navigation with voice guide out of box, etc. And it will never have flash support. I don't see any major thing that android is missing in iOS5. The only thing iOS has over Android is close integration with its hardware for smooth operation.

Although for me personally, I like the customizability in Android (even though it may lag at times, and crash) Got bored of iOS, well before it was even called iOS!

Very true...but iPhone users can't clear all! Like to see them get through

a few FB messages.
missed call,
few texts
let alone twitter updates
or notifications from apps!

Actually I remember thinking that when I was reading the updates on engadget...tut-tut Apple. Using the apps from an eco-system that you absolutely discourage and that goes against the whole philosophy of Apple/iOS!

Please Apple fanboys! Open your eyes now!

The main things I have noticed on Android/SGS2 since leaving iOS just under a month ago are:

- android's ability to sync 'to the cloud' with Google contacts, calendar etc.
- android's less 'smooth n flawless' OS feel (although the flipside is android's more customisation opportunities)
- apple's tightness in terms of integration (especially with iTunes)
- android's lack of an obvious way to update the OS (it may be obvious to existing androider's, or may become obvious when a new update comes up)
- SGS2's lack of compatibility with Kies for Mac (again, flipside is the lack of restriction in what file types I want to put on my phone)
- android's ability to add widgets and generally act like a mini PC (ability to download files straight to phone/SD memory, save attachments from e-mail etc.)
- android's app market not being very user friendly (in terms of just browsing)

Hopefully, that won't be an issue soon. New market UI looks very nice from these pics.

There is little doubt that iOS5 will be great! No reason to dis Apple as they simply are getting better and giving Android and other systems something to keep up with. I love my iPhone and SG2, also my Blackberry 9780!

Each has it's strong and not so strong points. Everyone is a winner as they all have a choice as to which to use!

this was a feature in cyanogen mod ROMs so hopefully Android will get it stock. the Droid X/X2 i know have this feature cooked in by Moto
