On my phone and my wife's (both HTC Desires), we have been having problems with the touch screen sometimes. Using HTC Sense - mine is rooted and using LeeDroid 3.0.7, tho problem occurred already when I was still using the stock Sense while rooted, and hers is factory Sense, unrooted.

At seemingly random times, when I press anywhere on the screen, the sensor would sense the touch at the same X coordinate, but at the top of the screen. I have used the simple drawing app Magic Marker to prove this to myself. So, when I draw any shape in the middle of the screen, I see my cursor running around at the top of the screen right above my finger - and occasionally sense it back at my finger before going back to the top. In most apps, when this happens, it will just pull the notification bar down.

Doesn't happen all the time, and when it does, I need to press the power (lock) and press again (unlock) a couple of times for the problem to go away.

Has anyone heard of such a problem?

I occasionally have a problem when I'm holding the phone in such a way that I accidentally contact the very edge of the screen. Then, when I touch the screen, it doesn't register the location of the touch properly. However, when holding the phone so that I'm careful not to contact the screen edge, I've never had any problems.

Did you do your test with your phone laying on a surface (not holding it)? Just curious if the solution might be that simple.

Thanks. I've tried putting the phone on a flat surface, but the problem is still there. When it happens again, I'll take the plastic case off of it - but I can't imagine that causing any issues.

Thanks. I looked at your video, and I'm not absolutely sure I see exactly the same thing - although, maybe they're related. I've created a short video myself - it's low-res, but you can see what I mean.

Unfortunately, I bought the phone in Asia when I was living there last year, and the problem didn't occur until I got back to Canada half a year later. So, I'm not sure what I can do as far as warranty or parts replacement.
