Help Software Update to build 3.26.605.1 NOTHING WORKS!

Turned on my Inc this morning and I got a message about Update Complete. Initial thought was of course Gingerbread??? Nope... Still 2.2 but a new build. 3.26.605.1 to be specific. I was running LP forever but the phone went back to Sense which I HATE. I can't get back to LP, uninstalled and reinstalled, HomeSwitcher won't work either. Getting LP to run again is my first issue. Worse issue is that Chomp won't run, a lot of my icons are blank, and the phone is a disaster now. Anybody else have this problem or a suggestion how I can get LP to work again??? Don't say root cause that's not an option for me.

OK.... Randomly HomeSwitcher worked and I got back to LP which also seems to be working now. Chomp stopped FCing and so did all the other apps that were bombing. No idea how this fixed itself but disaster avoided I guess. So crazy. I was seconds away from screaming at Verizon Customer Service even though this had nothing to do with them. Just wanted to yell at somebody...

I would absolutely call Verizon and ask them what noob is in charge of the update servers. This has been happening to tons of people, the Froyo update is being repushed to their phone and borking everything. Unacceptable, I think you should be compensated for hours of lost time and fixing their mistake. Yet another reason to root.

So at some point yesterday my phone restarted itself and now 99% of apps force close. Home Switcher and LP still run fine though. Limped through today with stock email and message apps. Verizon store in the morning to bust some skulls. Not very happy. No idea how or why this happened. They better not try to replace my phone. Or worse, replace it with a Droid X... ugh.

Another thing I noticed about the update is that my phone now has wireless g. I had N before the update. I didn't even install the update. I kept pushing "later" but after I did that a few times, I noticed the update had installed anyway.

It seems that with a new version of the Incredible and seeing how the current build is Verizon's "final" for the original Incredible, there is less and less support. I got the Incredible on day one being the second one to have bought it at the huge Verizon store just outside of St. Louis. It's been out for just over a year and now no more support?

I understand that coming from Verizon, but what about the custom rom community. What can I do to help? I cannot wait to rub the fix for this in Verizon's face. Please keep this post open. Let us Incredible 3.26.605.1 users ban together here until we find a solution.

BTW, After mine updated, I had to do a factory reset because I was stuck in a boot loop. I can still get temporary root using z4root app giving me the ability to use wireless tether (which works awesome with my new extended battery). I hope you don't go into Verizon and tell them you had a rooted phone. They will not replace it for you if you do. Like sdrawkcab25 stated "Bite the bullet and factory reset before you get too far and run into another issue." Then come back here and help me find a solution.

My phone is not rooted. I've never rooted a phone and never really had any interest in doing so after watching a few of my friends brick phones and have issues with vanilla installs.

I'm going to the Verizon Store now. Driving 40 minutes out of my way to hit a store with a reliable tech department where I used to live. My two most local stores are awful. When I turned the phone on this morning it's almost funny how many FC windows pop up. Basically all apps that would try to run on startup. So annoying. I've had my Inc since launch day and this is the first time I've ever had a problem. So mad.

Almost forgot to mention Apps are randomly being deleted too. Nesoid got deleted and it's not available in the app store anymore so I'll probably never get that back which really sucks.

The Verizon techs will go the factory reset route also.

True story. Thats exactly what they did. Factory reset and now it works fine. Still running 3.26.605.1 but smoothly with no FCs. I didn't care about factory reset because I had already backed up everything on the phone last week after the Netflix app handcuffed the OS. Slightly annoying to DL all apps again but I had already cleaned most of them out anyway. Hopefully it will continue to work until December when I might entertain getting a new phone if something comes out that is actually better...

Verizon rep said call warranty replacement if it happens again and it will be covered by them and not Asurion.

My phone just started rebooting yesterday. It automatically rebooted itself at least 3 times. When it finally settled down, very few of my apps work any more. Also, I can't get the phone to mount as a hard drive on my Windows 7 PC. I'm really upset about this, especially because I wasn't asked if I wanted to do this incremental update . . . I already had Froyo.

I'm going to give it a few days, and if it doesn't straighten itself out as one of the other reporters mentioned on this page, I'm going to do a factory reset.

Thanks for posting on this issue.

odds are against you in straightening itself out, and you may run into more issues down the road. I'd just do the factory reset now.

I would recommend that anybody who has this problem call Verizon directly and don't bring it into a store. Ask them how in the WORLD it's possible that you, along with many others are receiving an update FROM VERIZON that you already have which is borking your phone and making it unusable. The factory reset can be necessary for other things phone related but this is caused directly by them and is BS.

Look, I have made very few pissy posts in my time here and 2 of them are in this thread. This is unacceptable and Verizon should be held to account because there is zero argument...I will take anyone here to task on this...that this is Verizon's fault, period and end of story. They are the only ones that can push software to your phone and they have clearly known about this problem for some time now. I am not kidding when I say I would demand a new phone nor do I think it's a stretch to expect one. Who knows, some of you might get lucky and end up with an upgrade.
