Root HELP! Noob probs! I know.. i know.. lol

Sorry in advance for asking questions other people will prob consider stupid. But I started this and now I am extremely confused!

2 days ago I rooted with Gingerbreak. Then downloaded Superuser and Titanium Backup. But now my phone is so messed up! Camera isn't working (although video is!), home button does absolutely nothing, and it doesn't even ask for my lock pattern anymore.

I just wanted to root my phone so I could remove all the bloatware. And I was trying to figure out why, even though I have a 32 gig card in it, it kept saying memory full. I know it's saying that about the internal phone memory... but how do you automatically make things go on the sd card?

Again, sorry for the stupid questions... but I am clearly in over my head and don't want to mess up my brand new phone any further. :( I would really appreciate any help!

1) Exactly what bloatware did you remove? Sounds like you may have removed too much and took out some necessary system apps. If you made a full backup using Titanium Backup, you might be able to restore the system apps you removed, depending on how you deleted them.

2) Android Apps are coded to use internal memory by default, of which we only have ~190MB to use. Some newer apps install to the SD card or allow you to move them via Application Management. There are several free "Apps2SD" programs in the Market that list your installed movable programs if you don't want to look through them manually.

I think I may have figured out where I went wrong. First, it was not doing a backup of everything when I downloaded Titanium. Lol.. leave it to a noob huh? But I think when everything started going wrong was actually when I got aggravated coz nothing was going to the card. I went to some of the progs and "cleared" data to free up space. I kinda thought it was like clearing cookies on a browser. :(

Thank you for the info about the sd card. Wish I would have known that before starting this whole mess. So what should I do now? Take the phone back to Metro? I'm so scared to do anything... don't want to mess it up more.

Clearing data should not have caused such a detrimental problem. It is somewhat the equivalent of clearing cookies, just like the cache is the equivalent of temp internet files. But it is true you shouldn't delete data if it isn't necessary, at least with system items. These would be highlighted in red while viewing them in Titanium. I'm pretty sure it was something you deleted, unless you stuck to the safe apps list.

Metro and LG will do nothing in it's current condition because of the rooting. Since you did not install Custom Recovery, you'll have to use LGNPST to restore your phone to stock. I'll update this post with a link to the particular thread you need.

Anyways.. ended up taking my phone to Metro and the guy did a master reset and I have my phone back to normal! Could not be happier!!! He said I rooted it correctly, but ended up deleting too many files.. including ones that should never be deleted. Dunno that I will be attempting to root my phone again lol. But thanks so much for your help! :)

Well, I learned that it's a bad idea to leave your browser open and go to the store while ur friend is babysitting for you lol, congrats on getting ur phone functional again and even more so for getting a metro guy who knew how and what you did and was still willing to help you out. I would reconsider not rooting again. Trial and error will get you where you need to be, I am sure someone here would be willing to help you out alot, especially if you promise to email them a pic of the look you gave that metro agent to get him to fix a rooted phone lol.

Edit: that was not a ploy to get you to email me a pic btw, figured I'd clear that up b4 I end up being branded the forum perv lol, truth is I would not be the one that you want to ask, I thankfully rooted flashed a rom and overclocked without a problem with no experience but I am still reading alot so I can learn everything.

You're lucky to get one that was willing to help you out. If you are willing to try again, don't hesitate to ask as there are plenty who are willing to help you get it done correctly the next go round.

Yes I was VERY lucky!! I really didn't think they would help me out. Helps that there was no one in the store.. so we were free to talk. However, after coming home and playing with my phone.. turns out its STILL ROOTED?! Weird huh? Everything is exactly as it was before I deleted "the bad thing" lol. Superuser and Titanium even re-installed themselves and everything. Now to figure out what exactly this whole rooting thing is about. ;)
