Deleting Default Ringtones

Anyone know if we can delete the ring tones that shipped? I have a terminal emulator installed, so I think that would be the place to start, but am unsure if I can delete anything that's not on the SD card.

I would *think* that it cold be done by:
su rm /system/media/audio/ringtones/*.oog

I'm more worried what may happen if I do this. My reasoning for doing this is that I hate the built in ringtones, and have placed mp3's on the sdcard under /Ringtones and they show up in my Ring tones (no need to use the media player to do so). I have to browse through the ton of crappy tones to select the ones I'd like (obviously this isn't really a space issue, more convenience )

And I wish I knew how to uninstall the default applications like gtalk, visual vm.

I would like to know this as well! That would be sweet. I hate having to scroll through all the LAME stock tones. I hate them! I hate them!

Cant you just do it from /system/media/audio/ringtones...long press and delete?

Confirmed...Im using root explorer and it works just fine this way.

Edit 2: Be sure to reboot your phone so they also can get removed from your ringtone lists.

Cool, I tried that in the file manager I downloaded, and it told me I could only delete what was on the card (this is a rooted phone), but that could have just been something built into the manager I D/L'd to keep noobs from bricking their phones...

Hmmm, I'm getting read only errors. I rooted this guy yesterday and was able to install/overwrite the browser with the multi-touch EU version, but for some reason can't edit the ringtones folder...

Nevermind... Root file manager does the trick, well worth the $1.95

You don't need to root your phone to get those tones out of your hair. Ring Commander will let you hide, restore, or repurpose either system or user sounds. It will also help you to outright delete user sounds.
