After the missing calls problem I've had with my Fascinate since the 2.2 update, I am considering Verizon's offer to upgrade. I would pick the Samsung Droid Charge, but I'm hesistant because it's a certified new phone. I've read horror stories of getting a bigger piece of junk than what you already had. Does anyone have any advice or experience with certified new phones?

I have had a few certified new phones from Verizon, they all looked new!

I don't think they are sending you a certified new Charge for your replacement. They sent me a brand new in the box.

I was given the same offer and chose the Charge and was told it would be a refurb. My Fascinate is a refurb and has given me problems from the day I got it. Not to say all refurbs have issues. Mine just happened to be one that did. The Charge wasnt in stock when I was offered it so I am still waiting for one to come in. Starting to think I should have gone with the Droid X2 after all I've read about the charge and its issues but I'll give it a chance. Hopefully mine will be new as well but I am not holding my breath.

All in all though, to answer the question of the pot, they are generally good as new

How are you guys getting this offer? I was on the phone for over an hour and they explicitly said they will not replace it with any phone but a fascinate.

2 weeks of the tech support lying, continuous problems with the device, poor tech support service in general. Ask to speak to a supervisor and talk with them and they will more than likely make you the offer.

Oops. I take my words back. I just noticed on my box that the SKU was changed to CLNR at the front, which stands for Certified Like New Refurb.

But it's certainly like new, as everything was still wrapped in plastics.

Both people I talked to (one on the phone, one at the Verizon store) had no idea about the offer until they looked it up. I was told on Friday that the certified like new Samsung Charges were out of stock. Maybe they've revoked the offer. Either that or the person you talked to didn't know about it and didn't bother to check into it.

My Story:

Called customer service and they said they cannot order the Charge any more (out of stock??). They told me I would have to go into the store and get one there or they could order it. Went to the store and they said they cannot order it is out of stock and to call customer service and they can order it. While I was in the store I called Customer Service and the guy says he could order it for me and it would be here Monday the 18th. The two boxes came I opened them up and it was another fascinate and the other box had a back cover for the Charge . I called CS and they said sorry but the guy was an idiot and that they indeed cannot order the Charge at this time through there system. They are now only offering the Droid X2 and Incredible 2, or they said I could keep trying the stores in my area to see if they get any in. Arrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!

Do you all think that the Charge is a big upgrade? I am considering a try for a Charge replacement. My Fascinate works good but does miss calls here and there.

Its got the same 2.2.1 on it and the HDMI output. I just got mine as a replacement and so far I have been fine with it. A few extra features and a few missing from the Fascinate but a good phone. Also 4g but only works if your in a good location. I am so it works well. Its a matter of taste I guess if its a better phone or not. Doesnt feel as solid as the SF but a good case helps that.

Was told the same and it was only a few days before one came in. They sent out a whole kit though with mine. Its certified like new but came in the original box and with the memory card. Was told it wouldnt but it did. It did not come with the sim card it needs though and needed to go to the store and they gave me one there no charge for it.

Just walked into a Verizon store this afternoon to play with the Charge and Dinc2 to see if either were going to be worth switching for. A rep came over and I told him about the call bug, the fact that I've missed some important calls as a result, and the fact that tech support is giving the option to switch.

After we talked about the two phones and what he's seen with them as far as people returning them for whatever reason, he said "You know, you don't have to go through tech support to get a Charge as a replacement."

I said "really? I thought the Charge was out of stock currently" "Nope, I can order you one and have it shipped to your house. You would just have to return the Fascinate once you received it. The paperwork would only take about 10 minutes and you'd be good to go."

I asked if I would have to pay anything or if they would need to see my phone in the store (mine's rooted) and he said "Nope, just return it following the inclosed instructions." I said "okay, lets do it."

I left the store 15 minutes later with a 4G Sim card and was told my Charge should be at my door by Friday. Yay!

I had a similar experience today. I went in to a Verizon store and explained my issues with not receiving calls and lock ups. The manager, who knew absolutely nada, told me that a software update would come out soon to fix issues????? I asked about the replacement phones verizon was offering and the manager told me that this was no longer offered,mI told her that I knew of a person that got a replacement on the 16th so she checked and yes I could get one. The store tried to order a Charge and was unable to. I called customer service to see and the guy said that the store had to because it was a 4g phone and I had a 3g phone. This guy spoke to the manager of the store I was in and I was told that I could wait for a Charge or take a incredible 2 or a droid x2....and nobody knew when this replacement offer would stop. I called Verizon again and spoke to a very helpful lady who again called the store (I was not there this time) and the Verizon rep called me back later to let me know that the reason why nobody was able to order a Charge was because the batteries were not in stock. This caused the phone to be under a new skew in the warehouse. So I should get my "like new" Charge on Friday and then I got to go by the store to get my battery.

I was kinda upset about the manager lying to me twice and she did not like the fact that I busted her and advised her that I knew more about their offers and phones than she did. She asked how I knew so much and I told her that I have my sources.

I was offered the Charge, Incredible 2, or X2. My wife and I chose the Charge. I called customer support back to have them place the order at which point they told me I had to go to the store. I went to the store, the order was placed, and the phones arrived 2 days later. They never did send the sim card, so I had to go back in and get those, but I'm very happy with the Charge. I don't have 4G in my area, so I turn off the 4G for now, and have much better battery life than my fascinate did.

I just called my verizon store and am being offered the Inc2 or X2. They told me they don't have any droid charges in stock. :( I'm bumming as I wanted the charge. Inc2 for me if guess.

Maybe it's a regional thing because the employee I spoke with (yesterday) who ordered my Charge for me (yesterday) said that everything was in stock and would be shipped to me. In another forum I read that it's the batteries that are currently out of stock, not the phones. Maybe I just got lucky but I guess we'll see whether or not my phone comes with a battery when it arrives tomorrow (fingers crossed).

You are correct about the battery being the issue. I called tech support and they are now going to give me a charge. The stores near me and the warehouse don't have the batteries. Tech support called a few stores and found a battery for me. It's about a half an hour away and that's not bad.:)

I'm glad you were able to get it straightened out and her the device you really wanted. I can't wait to activate mine when it comes in tomorrow.

Had the same problem. Tech support for me even tried to get me an extended battery (for free) unfortunately they were out of those too. Then she three-way dialed the local verizon store and explained the dilemma and the store told me that i would have to PAY for the battery for the phone. Called again later and the woman there got me a brand new droid charge for free.

I called Verizon yesterday at about 1:00 in the afternoon. 6 minutes later I had a new Droid Inc 2 on the way. I asked about the Charge and the lady said they're no longer offering it. I guess it's hit and miss on getting the Charge, but at least I'll get to keep my upgrade date, so who knows what'll be available by then. That had to be the easiest phone call to Verizon I've ever had!

After way too much hassle between customer service and stores (and a complete idiot who acted as if I were lying about the upgrade offer), I finally got a Charge ordered today! I'm pretty excited. It should be here sometime next week. Just hoping it's in good condition and that there's nothing wrong with it!

I went in to a Verizon store today, told the rep I was having the missed call problem, he took my phone in the back, came back out 10 mins. later, and said he did a software update and installed advanced task killer on my phone, and all should be good.

I went to a different store about 5 hours later, told them I just went to the other store earlier, and also told them what the other rep did. He looked on his computer for a few minutes and then said he ordered me a new droid charge, and I should get it tuesday. He said everything (sim card, battery, back cover, charger) should be in the box.
