Hi Everyone,

Okay, we're several months along and there are a lot of choices for carrying the EVO 4G. I can get a cheap, Chinese knock-off for $3, shipped, or I can mortgage my house and get an Otter, or Seidio. I won't bother asking about the El Cheapo's, but if you have a worthy suggestion, by all means, weigh in!

I've read a lot of reviews on the Otter Defender and Seidio Convert. Most are raves, but the negs are very disturbing. For my needs, the Seidio looks to be the winner, but the neg reviews talk about the silly putty case being shoddy (tearing, swelling, bulging), the retention clip being annoying and the exo skeleton breaking. The Otter doesn't seem to offer the same level of protection and there's another BIG issue I have...

I am a "gun guy", "gun nut" (the term doesn't bother me), a firearms instructor of significant height. I'm 6'4", so all my belts are pretty thick and all are 1-3/4 in width. ANYTHING I get must have a clip that will accommodate my belts. Funny, no company offers belt dimensions in their adverts, except for Seidio, who states their clip will accommodate a "duty belt".

I would like something rugged, durable, something I don't have to replace every year. I plan to keep my phone til it dies, or something that amazes me comes out (long ways away).

I love my EVO and want and need to keep it in pristine condition. Being that I have to buy my phones outright and pay to flash to my preferred carrier, I have to make my phone last.

Thanks for your help and any advice in advance!

The Seidio Convert will accommodate up to a 2" belt. I have both the otterboox defender and the convert (its predecessor) it comes with 2 clips. one for full coverage and one for a leaner look with out the exoskeleton. Both are good cases, if you go for the 3500battery, the seidio is only choice of the 2. Only problem I find with the seidio is that on my evo it tends to turn screen on with the security clip

haha Bro you spent probably $200 on the Phone, $60 that makes it last sounds like a smart buy to me.

My Buddy is a cop, he bought another magazine holder and just puts his phone in it. Just a thought, not sure if it'd work for you.

The only thing I carry is a .45ACP 1911, which is single stack so very slender mags and mag pouches. I'm not sure what mag pouch, aside from something like an AR15, would hold an EVO.

As mentioned, I did spend some coin on the phone, $150 for phone and $100 to have it flashed to Boost, so I don't mind paying for something good to protect it. I just want to make certain that a $60 case is actually a $60 case.

I like the idea that the Seidio is somewhat water resistant. Not that I spend a lot of time standing out in the rain, but ya never know. I don't plan on going to the mondo battery. I'm fine with 1800mAh for now.

Is the belt clip actually adjustable? I mean, if I use it with my 1-3/4" belt, can I size it down to where it won't flop around?
