Phone is being tapped, how to check for malware?

I just found out that a certain person is tapping private phone conversations and WhatsApp and Twitter messages between me and a girl I know. I'm furious. I intend on wiping the phone and changing all passwords, but before that I'd like to find some proof that the tapping was done through malware on the phone. Which malware scanners are good at finding malware that taps conversations and messages? Preferably a free one because I only intend on using it once before I wipe everything.

Are there also any other methods through which the guy could have tapped my phone conversations and messages, other than installing malware on the phone?

I don't know of any software for what you are looking for, but you also might want to check your friend's phone also. It might be her phone that is tapped.

I dont know of any malware which does this (which doesnt mean anything either way) but even if there was - how did he get it on your phone? Far more likely he's somehow guessed your password.

And also... i dont do much twitter, but was of the opinion that it was all open: messages arent private, everyone can see them.

Did this person in question physically get your phone at some point? That is the ONLY way this could've happened. If they never had physical access to your phone, it is extremely unlikely that there is malware on it that they installed.

Messages on twitter are private. A post in your timeline or a "@persons name" reply, can be seen by anyone.

i dont think there are any public apps that tap your phone....
unless they are with gov law enforcement.

The only way you can legally wiretap a phone line is with a warrant signed by a judge. Unless you're the feds and suspect someone might possibly be a terrorist. Then personal liberties mean nothing.

It's not uncommon for people to think their phone is being monitored, when actually the information is getting out in some other way. So without knowing more, it's hard for anyone to help. What are you seeing that makes you think that these specific functions (phone, WhatsApp, and Twitter) are being monitored? That might help people figure out what's going on.

Phone tapping is different .It is a live system tapping which requires permits and what not .
What doesnt require permit is non-live system .If someone had access to you or your girlfriends cellphone your private conversations wont be that private .Just a matter of clever use of basic apps .Since this is your only second post and since this is a public forum and ,I dont want people doing stuff which they shouldn't be doing,I cant reveal one of the methods .
Snooping on two people is easy if you have physical access to one device for some time .
It doesn't require remote snooping techniques like malware and tapping.

There are spyware apps someone could have installed on your phone if they had physicial access to it, just google android spy and you can see for yourself, but they would need physical access. Likely if they can still have physical access to the phone they are just reading the texts/tweets using the apps.

If you are concerned about having a malicious app, the easiest thing to do is go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications and tap the "all" tab. If you see anything that you don't recall installing and doesn't look like part of the system, you can look it up to see exactly what it does.

Only issue with this is some of the spy apps I've seen before hide themselves from there

How would an app hide itself from there?

Even then, the chance of someone getting physical access to the OP's phone long enough to install malicious software and configure it seems very slim. Even if they did do that, that software would NOT give that person access to the OP's phone calls. The call logs sure, but not the actual calls. The app would need to record the OP's calls and then forward them via email to the other person. Have you ever tried to record your own phone calls? I've found it is clunky at best and doesn't work well at all in general. It certainly would not give the person access to Twitter or Whatsapp. It is far, far, far more likely that the guy simply guess the OP's password or the girl's password and got the information that way. Or it's even more likely that the girl gave this guy the information that he's passing along the OP.

How? I'm not saying that you don't know what you're talking about but most people don't seem to understand causal versus coincidental and jump to conclusions. A third person knowing private info doesn't always mean that tapping was done on your phone or spying apps were installed on your phone. There are certainly other methods to obtain such information.

Just wipe then. If it was done that way then you'll have proof as your suspect won't have that source of information any longer. Why let the person continue spying if you suspect that this is how it was done?
