So here is my situation;

I created a Gmail acct when I first got my Hero, but just yesterday I began an internship for a political campaign and they created another Gmail acct for me and they would like me to be able to receive my emails on my phone, they also use Google Calender so all the interns can be aware of the schedule of events. So how do I add this new Gmail acct and Google Calender to my Hero so I can recveive my email and be able to access the calender using the GMAIL App that came preinstalled? Thanks for your help

Configure that through your Google account. Check in the settings of your existing account, have it pull email from your new GMAIL. You can even set it up with a filter to automatically put a colored label on it. Then have them add your existing gmail account to the shared calendar. The on your phone you can see both your personal calendar and the political calendar.

You don't need another gmail account.

Here's what I do...I have work and personal gmail accounts. Go into your personal account -> settings -> accounts and import. Setup your personal account to check the other account in the "Check mail using POP3" section. This will pull email from your other account and you can even send mail as the other account if you choose. As for the calendar, share your calendar for your other account and add it to your personal calendar. Then, on the calendar app on your phone, have it show your personal calendar and other calendar. Problem solved.

Make sure you turn on POP3 access on your other account.

If you want to use a different GMAIL account on your phone you don't need to do a factory reset, just do the following:

from home screen hit menu hard key > Applications > Manage Applications > (wait a bit for phone to compute) Scroll down to "gmail" click once then click "clear data" hit back hard key then below it you should see "google apps" click once then hit "clear data" as well. I rebooted my phone and it asked me to re-enter my gmail address and password but not sure if you need to reboot. It worked for me.

Hope this helps.

The problem you will face adding a second account through your primary account is that any mail sent from your phone would be tagged as sent from your personal mail.

If you are trying to change the Gmail account your phone uses, I am rather sure you will need to do a factory reset and log into your new gmail account.

When you have GMail check another account you can also set it up to send as that account when you reply to emails that came into that account. So set your gmail account to check the mail on the other account, set it to send as that account, and you are done. I used to check 5 different accounts using the HTC mail client. Now I check one with Gmail on the phone and one with the HTC client because it's Exchange. If I respond to an e-mail that came from one of the four accounts I check it sends as that account so it's transparent to everyone but me. The only pain in the ass is that you can't choose to send as another account when creating an email which kind of sucks but as long as you are replying it's completely invisible to the person you are replying to.

You even have the option to set up a label when having it check the new account you added. Then use the GMail label shortcut and you won't mistake any emails. You don't need to wipe your current account as that will lose you all the stuff you have with it. You don't need imap or pop3 setup in the HTC client. You can get all your email to one place and even send responses as the other account without much difficulty.

I am trying to use the GMAIL app, not the MAIL app. I know we can add up to 8 accts using the MAIL app, but I think we can only have 1 email acct using the GMAIL app.

I'm not being a wise guy, just pointing out that you can receive the 2nd Gmail separately by just using the standard email app. Is there any other advantage or reason to not do this?

What about the settings in Gmail itself to retrieve the 2nd mail and push it thru your phones email as indicated here by others. It won't show your primary email and works pretty well.

Anyway... hope you achieve what you need.

Yeah, the standard email APP doesn't offer as many options. I did this last night, and I can't do things like label emails like I can with my standard GMail.

I've tried to go to GMail, account, add account, and sign in, but each time I get "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". This happens even when I'm using WiFi, and two feet away from the wireless router. I've tried power cycles, and am using my internet on my Android (Galaxy S, ATT Captivate) as usual.. No joy.

Hi John, and welcome to the Forums! You've stumbled upon a year-old thread in the Sprint HTC Hero area, from a time before we were using the sub forums. So I have moved it to the Sprint HTC Hero "support and troubleshooting" area where it will get more attention. However, you say you are using a different phone than the Sprint HTC Hero, so perhaps it needs to be moved to a different area all together.

Please advise exacrtly what phone you are using so we can direct you to the proper place.

Thanks, and welcome again!
