Droid AVRCP Car Audio

I'm just wondering if anybody has had a chance to explore the Droids AVRCP capability yet for car and home audio. How much of the AVRCP does Droid implement (version?). I'm not entirely clear on the implementation, but what I would like to do is control the radio and cd player in the car and home with the bluetooth from the Droid. Will this take an app to make it work? What car stereos support AVRCP, and how much of it do they implement?

There are several stereos out that support avrcp. The best ones use parrot apparently. I settled down to 2 models and took the cheap, better, but with most complicated on to use. Kenwood KDC-x933. Pioneer has one called the 710bt or Premiere 7100bt thats really good too, and has any easier interphase. None of the units I tested in stores with a Droid (JVC 800/900, Sony 2700/3800 included) would show the songs and album info from the head unit using bluetooth, but could if using usb. I haven't tried the aux. out yet. I am just finishing off my install and will post details in the next few days.

Did you get any further information about this? I'm also trying to find out what level of AVRCP is implemented by Android 1.5. I would like to do the opposite of your question: control the Android media player from the Car Steering Wheel control. Did you find any hint towards this kind of info?

i have the pioneer 7000bt. you can control the stock music player through bt on the headunit (stop, play, pause. prev & next song). i don't think you can change albums and it does not display artist/song info on the headunit.

pandora also has the ability to "skip" songs by pushing next on the hu. at last check, slacker did not.

I have a p4100dvd and it has the same controls, standard play pause next previous, and pandora works onscreen and with hard keys.

I really would love to find a player that can at least display track info.

This is all bluetooth related not usb. For the Kenwood kdc-x933 you cannot tell the track number or any song info from the head unit, however you can stop, play or move forward and back through tracks from the head unit and also can see the album info, artist and song info on the droid as it changes. You can also run mixzing on the droid from the head unit as a default. If you turn on the blue tooth it will automaticly start up the multimedia player or mixzing from the droid.

Thanks for all the info. I have an appt. for installing the Pioneer 7100BT tomorrow. I hope the function you describe as available from the HU also work through the steering-wheel control.

According to Wikipedia, in order to support showing the album info in the display, both the car stereo and the device would need to support AVRCP v1.3, but I think we only have 1.0 on both ends - almost for sure on the car stereo end, it would be nice to find out with more detail about the different versions of Android and/or players.
