Help Battery Cover Removal

Received the Droid 3 yesterday. I assembled it and now I am trying to insert an SD card in it and I can't figure out how to remove the battery cover. I'm feeling stupid. Help!

At the top of the phone, the back cover has a little slot big enough for a fingernail. You start prying the cover off from there. It snaps on rather than slides so just keep gently prying. I had the same problem when I first got it.

Thanks so much. I was able to get it opened, I inserted my SD card from my Droid I and it recognized it immediately and all my pictures and music are there. I'm loving the new Droid 3.....so far!

I figured that you had figured it out by now. I went ahead and answered because the thread topic is here and someone else might have the same problem later on. I'm expecting some additional new users tomorrow when the phone is officially available in stores.

I found using an old credit card the best tool for removing the back cover on the Motorola Droid 3. Place the corner of the credit card in the slot at the top of the phone, continue sliding the card in, and push or pull outward. Once inserted, you can continue to slide in the card, twist it, and the cover pops right off. If you just want to use the card to get the cover started, slip it in and then you can get your fingernail into the slot. But don't bother using your fingernail, it was incredible how quickly the back popped off when using a credit card.

To replace the cover, slip the two little tabs at the bottom of the cover into their slots and snap the top of the back into place.

I really tried several times using my fingernail to get the back off, but didn't have any luck. The credit card worked like a champ.

As a final note, it really doesn't hurt the credit card at all to use it this way, but your mileage may vary.

If you stick an extended battery under the standard battery cover, you won't ever have any trouble getting the cover off again, I promise you ! It barely fits and if the battery swells a bit when it gets warm then you will have a cover that is eager to pop off at the slightest touch of a fingernail at the top. Might want to use a cover over the back in that case... :)
