***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Well as long as this is the Nexus and updates are from Google ...

Given that it's labeled as a Droid Prime, it's probably going to be full of bloatware and whatnot. But I could care less, if Samsung keeps with its practice of unlocked bootloaders and donations to devs.

If this is the ICS, 4.65" beast we've been hearing about, this will be the phone of the year, and will make me perfectly happy until my upgrade in 2013.

Edit:
For what it's worth, I texted my sister (VZW employee) and asked about this. She texted back "What's the model number?" and I texted back "SCH-i515" (from the article).

She texted back "Can't say."

Who knows what that means, but at least she didn't say "No."

^Verizon exclusive!!!! SAY IT AINT SO!!!!!! :(

I know the feeling.

Sorry guys. But I can't believe that this phone will be the only ICS phone out there.

And given the fact that this is the "Droid" Prime, Google/Samsung might be releasing other Primes on other carriers, maybe even within the same general time frame.
BTW, this is also suggested in this link.

One thing doesn't make sense. Why would Verizon pass on the SGS2 because it couldn't compete as well with iPhone 5 as the Prime?

Isn't Verizon going to sell the iPhone 5, too? Why would it want to compete with itself?

Well remember, it's basically a battle between Android and IOS. Google vs. Apple, when you get right down to it.

Verizon doesn't really have a horse in the race in the sense that you mentioned.

But Google's going to want the first ICS device if it's going to go head to head vs. Apple. How it got Verizon to do it is anyone's guess. But I could see Samsung agreeing to "Prime instead of SGSII", because it will still make a ton of money.

But I highly doubt that other carriers won't be getting some version of the Prime, including those that will be carrying iPhone 5. It won't be labeled DROID Prime, of course, but I'm sure they'll have their own versions.

I do think that October might be a "best case scenario". I hope it's realistic, but if it gets pushed back to November I still see it worth waiting for.

This just keeps getting better and better. Now it's the Droid Prime, not Nexus Prime. I came here from the Stratosphere subforum which came about with the extinction of the Function subforum. Crazy.

I'm in the exact same boat as you man. I was definitely thinking I'd be a proud owner of a Function by now! I guess we just have to wait and see. I'm just hoping my Og Droid will last until Verizon actually releases something decent.

Yeah, I feel the same. Function and Stratosphere just came and go here without seeing light of day. Apparently verizon ditched original SGS2 in favor of something better with LTE from Sammy. I don't mind them getting recently announced LTE SGS2 before Prime, but looks like they are just gearing up for Droid Prime. Hopefully this device is real and doesn't end up like Function, Stratosphere.

i hope this is true. its time for two upgrades, one for me and one for my girl.
we want the latest and greatest devices. so we will wait for Droid Prime.

my girl had her heart set on SGS2 but no go on verizon.

i didn't think prime would make it to verizon, i was going to waiting for the vigor.

Now I have a new phone to watch. I wanted the Bionic but settled for the Thunderbolt. I was thinking of buying the Bionic off contract after some early adopters had been used as Guinea pigs, now it looks like I will be waiting to see if VZW gets the Prime. Now I know why the fanboys like having just one iOS device.

It seems pretty solid that Prime will be heading to Verizon. But regardless, hopefully by the time the Vigor comes out we'll have some more info on release date, etc. so that you can make an informed decision.

I really like the looks of the Vigor, but I've heard bad things about HTC and battery life.

Calling it Droid Prime instead of Nexus Prime does not give me warm and fuzzies at all. I'd hate to get the Droid Prime (full of Verizon bloat of course and stuck with Samsung's slow updates) while all other carriers get the Nexus Prime version of the phone.

Hopefully it will be labeled as a Nexus device for Big Red.

I hope so too..

Lest we all remember the Xoom and the reasoning Google wouldn't let VZW brand it as a Nexus device..

Some rumor-guys are saying the DROID branding is full of BS.

P3Droid

TeamAndIRC

Which kind of makes sense, given that it would be strange to have 2 DROID devices with a month of each other.

But the Droid X2, Droid 3, and Droid Bionic are all pretty much in the same time-frame, so who knows.

Argh!
