I have an HTC Desire S and I carelessly (but unintentionally) removed the clock, location and weather display from the home screen. I can't find any way of recovering it. Can anyone help?

Its a widget. Long press home screen. I think the widget is called HTC clock or something like that.

Long press on blank space and then press 'Widget' and then 'Browse all HTC Widgets' and then chose number 12 of the 73 available. This may differ from phone batch to phone batch, possibly. However you'll see it in the 'Clock' widgets there.
