Help Not as snappy as I'd like

I got a droid X2 a few weeks ago, and I love it. I've been playing around with everything I can find, and it is now rooted and running froyo 2.2.2 with Go Launcher EX. I'm having some issues with redraws on the home screen, and general lag when launching programs/moving between screens. I was wondering if this is simply because I have too much going on (Beautiful home, twitter and facebook widgets... each on a different screen), or if it could be fixed by upgrading to Gingerbread.

If it's the latter, that leads me to another question. Is it possible to keep my current configuration (icons, widget placements, etc) when flashing to GB from Froyo? And do I have to do a factory reset to root into GB, or can I do it straight from froyo? What is involved in that process? Thanks guys

If you backup your launcher data, then successfully restore it later (sometimes you might have issues with restoring app data from one build to another) everything should be the same except widgets. But really, how hard is it to put some widgets on your screens?

And do I have to do a factory reset to root into GB, or can I do it straight from froyo? What is involved in that process? Thanks guys

My main concern was the custom launcher and icon changes/wallpaper etc. But my most glaring problem is... I don't know how to move from rooted froyo to rooted gingerbread. I read that you must have stock froyo, does that mean I can't be rooted? Or do I just have to unfreeze all of the bloatware and other crap?

As long as you have all the original stock apps unfrozen and haven't deleted any, you should be fine.
Just remember, this is all still pretty new stuff, so issues can still arise.

The more you have going on, the more your phone has to do. You could always try a cache cleaner, get rid of unused apps, cut down on widgets, change the "keep launcher in memory" options, etc.

Sorry to keep bothering you... I'm sort of new to android as a whole. What is bootstrap recovery? I found it in the market for Droid X and Droid 3, but not Droid X2.

Recovery mode lets you execute a set of commands while in a pre-boot state, before your ROM loads. Bootstrap adds to the list of commands recovery mode allows you to perform. It can be very handy, if not essential, if you mod your phone.

Ah ok, but then it's not necessary for installing a rooted GB right? I may get it once more mods start coming out for the X2, but I don't think I have a need for it yet

You need Bootstrap Recovery in order to use that update.

There's a way to get rid of the redraws and lag in your launcher, but it requires being rooted and getting a terminal program for your DX2 (it's free): DX2 & Launcher Pro

Ok awesome. I got bootstrap and flashed to GB, and I'm loving it. Everything is much faster, snappier, and the battery even seems to be more resilient. My home screen was even kept the same (not sure how). The only thing I lost were my contacts, because when I tried to restore them from GO Contacts, it had really only backed up 25. Not an issue though, those are easy to recover.

Make sure to go into your Accounts and check "Sync Contacts." You'll always have them out in the cloud no matter what, even if you switch phones.
