Root ROMS With Built In CPU Management Vs. Set CPU

what rom are you on? if it is cm7 then go to settinings/cm settings/performance/ cpu settings.

I am currently running the final if evolved recharged ROM, which I was running with the more freedom kernal and secpu but it was very tempermental. Now I reflashed recharged and used there zip to run it at 1ghz and it is using golden monkey but have yet to put setcpu on it.

Is CM7 one of the few ROMS that you really need to now use setcpu with? I've never had much luck with CM7 anyway, always seems to be glitchy and laggy for me, not sure why, could just be me.
No, you really don't need to use it. I use it on the off chance that I want to use a screen off profile (which is basically never, since Smartass and InteractiveX governors both include a screen off profile by default) and I like some of the info that is available in SetCPU that isn't with the CM7 Settings menu. Like I can tell if anything is pegging my cpu at 100% usage or see what amount of time my CPU as spending at a given speed.

If you thought the ROM was glitchy or laggy, it could have been a bad flash, or maybe you didn't wipe properly before flashing. Do you use Amon RA 2.3 as your recovery or Clockwork? I (and many others) would HIGHLY recommend Amon RA over Clockwork. It just works better and is less prone to issues. Did you flash the ROM with ROM Manager? Another no-no, as it's been known to be buggy.

If you did all of these things already, you could try a different kernel. They are quite finicky, and vary a lot from phone to phone. My old Evo could easily handle a 50 mv undervolt with a Tiamat kernel. My new Evo struggles a bit with even a 25 mv undervolt with the exact same setup. It's kind of a crapshoot, but it's fun to flash everything under the sun to find the perfect combo for you phone. Hope this helps!
