Help PC thinks DINC is CD-ROM

Hi all,

New to the forum and to my Incredible (after having a Droid for the last 1.5 years).

Here's my issue:

When I plug the phone in, I get the standard options (charge, sync, use as drive, and use as modem). If I select Use as Drive, the phone shows up in My Computer as a CD Rom drive.

I've done some digging and found this trouble-shooting action:

dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password 000000 (that's 6 zeros)
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

I've done this (multiple times), but it hasn't helped, though at least it doesn't try to start VCast any longer. I've tried to do it with debugging enabled and without debugging enabled, but nothing seems to work.

The SD card functions for apps, etc., so it's not a defective card, as far as I can tell.

Any suggestions?

First off, what os are you using?
Second, are you letting it sit for a while. It takes a minute or so for the internal storage and sd card to become available on my PC. (The Incredible shows up as 3 drives on a computer, the cd-rom [which is htc sync stuff if I recall], a 6.59 GB drive and the sd card). So it will show up as a CD-Rom AND 2 other drives.

Good suggestion--I downloaded HTC Sync, and was actually able to have my computer recognize my phone. Twice. I was able to transfer some music, first through HTC Sync and then through DoubleTwist, but now it's back to not connecting.

I start HTC Sync on the computer, wait for it to start to run, and then attach the phone. The phone can't find the desktop app., and the desktop app. says that nothing's connected.

Meanwhile, over in My Computer, there are two new Removable Disks, but I can't access either of them--I get a message directing me to insert a disk.

All I want to do is get a subset of my music moved over so that I can leave my old iTouch at home when I go running. Is that too much to ask??

If you have a microsd card reader you could put the music on that way, or anything that has an miscrosd card slot and is recognized by your computer. If you want to music on the internal storage instead of the sd card you could put it on the sd card and then use Astro or some other file manager to transfer them to the internal storage.

HTC Sync auto installs the phone recognition drivers at install but you don't necessarily have to use the program to transfer data. So if you don't start HTC Syc and just plug in the phone to the PC, then choose "disk drive" mode with usb debugging enabled...you still aren't able to browse the internal storage and sd card contents (as drives)?
