HTC Erisrecently rooted, cannot get the correct recovery screen. When I try amon_ra, get nothing but errors , pressing on + vol_down gives me a screen with only 2 options, (VOL_UP ans Send) and no wipe or anything else. HATED this phone from the beginning, but stuck with 2 yr contract finally rooted it last week and was starting to get things to work, but now it won't do anything I want, even if I follow the directions to the teee. WHat a POS.

How did you root the phone? Which procedure did you use?

used super 1 click and then updated it. when trying to get into recovery from ROM manager, i get a screen with a red question mark on it. open garden works, and gscript , and have installed auto Manager (RAM manager), es file explorer, titanium backup, busybox installer v4.4, appbrain, and terminal emulator. I don't know the linux commands that well. and don't really know that much about using the terminal.

ClockworkMod as the default recovery is not the best choice for an Eris - many people end up with a bricked device.

I'd try installing the 1-click root app in the market to install Amon_RA recovery and then install a ROM from there.

The best procedure for installing a custom ROM is in the fourth post of this thread, which walks you through the steps to install a ROM (you can also follow that thread from post 1 for an alternate rooting procedure that takes a few more steps):

http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html

If you want a good rooted custom ROM that is close to stock, I recommend xtrSENSE (if you like the Sense launcher) or xtrROM (if you want a custom launcher). Both are Android 2.1.

If you want a more vanilla ROM, I suggest CondemnedSoul's CM7 Gingerbread (Android 2.3) ROM.

[ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers
[ROM][GPL] xtrROM5.0.1 odex,cache2cache,apps2sd,jit,lwp,oc[3/29/2011] - xda-developers
[ROM] 9/18/11 Condemned CM7 V18.3 (2.3.5) - xda-developers

Thanks a lot, I am now in ROM hell...Am downloading 2 more now and keep switching them repeatedly. Really loved the condemnedcm7 but started having issues with bluetooth and adw,
The original problem was a bad 1click root that didn't properly install the recovery, but now have amon_ra and working great. Ended up doing the gscript root procedure. Titanium BU is a freakin' lifesaver. Have started playing with other tweaks too. I actually am starting to like this phone, and the phone part works better too. But, need to search now for a stock rom JIC.
sent from my asus eee netbook tethered to an Eris running GSBv4.0 for now

If you want to bring the phone back to stock, including stock Recovery, you can flash one of ErisUser1's Flashback_21 ROMs (I am sure that the one without the radio is fine.) You'd have to re-root if you want to go back to rooted, though.

[ROM][03/06/2011]FlashBack21 v2 -Return to Factory Stock - March 2011 OTA - xda-developers

If you want just stock but keeping Amon_RA Recovery so you can quickly Nandroid restore or flash a new ROM, you can use this one: [ROM] HTC Eris March 2011 OTA Stock ROM - v2.41.605.6 - xda-developers

Like installing Flashback, this will return you to stock, as of the March 2011 OTA, not rooted (so, it has all of the bloat, will not let you run apps like Titanium Backup or wireless tether), but unlike Flashback, will retain the Amon_RA custom recovery.
