    hey guys,
just want to y'all know about this ota that is rolling out. it is a security OTA that fixes the security vulnerability that was discovered a month or so back.

since you are rooted, please do not accept this ota. it will cause more problems, if you do.

    1.it could boink your phone.
    2.it might also unroot you.
3.the ota might also change the hboot, since this is a security update and thus there may not be a way to re-root your phone.

just let the devs look at what the ota is and they will most likely add it into their own roms or create a new one.

All Sprint HTC EVO devices are now receiving OTA security update [Updated]

make sure that you have the software updater unchecked in settings/system updates/htc software/uncheck scheduled check. that way you will not get a notifiaction about an update and you will not be tempted to accept it.

yep that is correct about the ota. it is an easy fix but i'm not sure what else they have added to the ota. it could be a new hboot which will most likely close the previous exploit that revolutionary uses. it is therefore possible that this will unroot people's phone with no way of rooting it again, until the devs can find a new exploit. who knows how long that will be.

here is what is in the ota:
    HTC EVO 4G Software Update - 4.54.651.1

    Enhancements/Fixes:
    - Security Update
    ,
    Important Notes:
    - The new software version is: 4.54.651.1
    - The customer may initiate the update beginning 10/25 or wait until notifications begin being sent to devices on 10/27
    - Refer to the HTC EVO 4G Software Update blog for install instructions
    - Updates may be released in stages. When checking for the update, you may receive a message that no update is available,
check back later or wait until the update notification is sent to your device

but who knows if it actually changes the hboot. if it does then revolutionary will not work.

Daughter just did this up date Hboot is still 2.16.0001 dont realy see any difference. Just to let you know but still dont acept it. Only did on daughters evo because it will never be rooted.

My wife did the update on her phone today. So she thought she would do mine for me. I just got root and finally Su got ride of the bug. Everything was working great. Well did not lose root and hboot is the same. I'll let you know if anything happens.

thanx guys for letting us know. much apreciated. but just make sure that in the future whatever device that you have and it is rooted to never accept an ota.

This is my salutations to you folks. You've provided a wealth of knowledge to me about Android devices. I was an avid Blackberry user for years. Thanks to you, I made the plunge and rooted my new Evo that I recently received.

Is there any benefit to the recent update? Has anyone had any issues since the update?

    First, welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

The recent update to 4.54 was HTC/Sprint getting rid of a few "spy" applications, such as htc.loggers.apk. If you are flashing roms, most of the developers for the Evo4G have taken out these "spy" apps. And being that you are rooted, you could take out those apps yourself anyways;) Other than that, there's really nothing new in the update.
