A closer look at the Droid RAZR's screen

(Yes, it really is this green, especially at low brightness levels.)

I think this part is important. I went to my VZW store today to look at their display unit. I checked and they had the device on the 100% brightness setting. When I clicked the automatic button the screen went significantly darker and definitely did not look as good. It looked bad enough that I decided not to mess with it and set it back to 100% for the rest of the time I played with it.

Maybe the next time I look I will try to do all of my playing around with the screen on maybe 40 or 50% brightness. Things like that are hard though. The lighting in those stores is pretty specifically set to make things hard on you I am sure. Real world usage would be more important, but that seems to be the sentiment about these phones in a lot of aspects.

The phone was still quite impressive though, I just may want another look at that screen.

I compared the Bionic and Razr at full brightness. Bionic IMO looks better and there is no true white on the Razr, but a gray/green tinge.

Store also had the Rezound in hiding, which IMO blew both displays away.

My VZW business rep stopped by my shop this morning and he had some nice goodies to play with. He had with him the Rezound, the Razr, and the Galaxy Nexus. No, I dont have pics because he was paranoid that I would post them on the net, guess he knows me better than I thought :).

Anyway, I got a good look at all threes screens and I can say in all honesty that the Rezounds screen blows the other two out of the water. It is sharp, crisp, clear, has more natural colors, and is brighter. Both the other two screens were your typical Super AMOLED screens, super blacks, highly oversaturated colors, slight green tint on light backrounds at low brightness, grey/green whites in web browser. Also sorry to say that if you see pixels on the current Super AMOLED screens then you are going to see them on both the Razr and the Nexus. It seems that the pixels on the RGBG PenTile screens are physicaly larger than traditional RGB layouts and thats why they are so easy to see, so even though the Nexus has higher rez it doesnt help the pixel size and looks similar to the Razr.

The Rezound is turning into the dark horse very quickly!

ok Seriously, U held an LTE VZW Galaxy Nexus? I have no reason not to believe you man....Explain??? Whats the Scoop, how much thicker then the Razr, was it Quick, Were camera shots clear with the no lag shutter? And how did the Buld quality feel? And most of all..DID YOUR GUY SAY WHEN IT's GETTING RELEASED?

He failed to mention at what brightness levels those tests were done. It looks to me like the brightness on the RAZR is conveniently set very low (perhaps on auto brightness) while the others are turned up high. I've done 3 side by side comparisons (at full brightness) between the RAZR, the Bionic and the X2. No doubt, while the RAZR's screen is quite a bit dimmer it is nowhere near as bad as those pictures show. However, it is true that at low brightness the RAZR screen does have a bit of an annoying greyish/green hue in the whites. This is a con of a PenTile RGBG display.

The main body of the Nexus is a little thicker than the DroidX with a hump at the bottom a little thicker than the DroidX hump. It is your typical Samsung build, light but plasticky feeling. The camera started up about 1 second faster than the Razr and shutter speed was about as fast as the iPhone 4S. The camera quality was hard to judge but I would say that is slightly less detailed than the Razr but more clear. The camera quality on the Rezound was alot better than both the other devices but not a fast.
He said the release would be November 21st for online orders with in store release December 1st. He did point out that the release date has changed several times and could change again.

In all honesty I think I like the Rezound better than the other two. Its build quality is very good, its seems fast and fluid, the screen is better and the camera was great. It was fairly wide compared to the other two but it still felt very nice in the hand. My only concern would be battery life and he did confirm that is not as good as the other two. He said it was slightly better then the Thunderbolt but not much. The Rezound did impress me enough that I am considering it strongly.

This just backs up my fear about the RAZR screen.... so it sounds like Rezound or I'm keeping my DX2. No thanks to a dim assed display no matter how good the rest of the phone is.

Razr has a fairly good screen...however it looks like HTC pulled a fast one and delivered.
