I recently got this LG GT540 phone after most of the touch screen died on my old Samsung Galaxy Spica.
I assumed I'd be able to re-use the Micro-SD card from my samsung in my LG, but it doesn't show anything at all when I insert it, no "damaged SD card" message, it's just as if there is no card at all.
The card is a 8Gb Samsung Micro-SD HC.
Any ideas? And for those who bought their phone brand new, what SD card is shipped with the phone?

An 8GB card should work, mine came with a 2GB card, I however upgraded to a 4GB and it works fine, I would try another SD card if you can, it could be a problem with the SD card reader in the phone, if that is so then you should beable to get a replacement.

I think the maximum SD card size it supports is 32GB.

It will take up to 32GB but anything larger than 8GB has to be class 6 or higher. If you try a high capacity low class card you will have consistent problems with it being unstable.

Your card 8 GB card should work fine. If nothing else, take all the files off that you want to keep then reformat the card and see if that helps.

Thanks for the replies, I have tryed to format the card, but it didn't help.
To the SD card class remark, would an 8GB card need to be a higher class?
Mine is a Class 2, Micro-SD HC, I assume that would be ok?

What exactly are the "specs" of the SD cards originally shipped with this phone, I'll try and find the same one to be sure if the problem is phone or card related.

Also, I've got CM7 installed on the phone, could this be the reason for the device not recognizing the card at all (it's as if there's no card inserted at all)

If not, last resort, how easy/dangerous is it to open up the phone to replace the SD card reader, and do you think the reader part from my samsung spica would do the job?

Hi folks,

I`ve had the same problems with my sd-card on my GT540 ! (SanDisk 8GB SDHC)

So, try to solve it - the same way, I`ve solved it before !

No warranty ! And, please, do not blame me, if it will not work on your phone !
.................................................. .................................................. ....................................

Put the SD-CARD out of your PHONE and into an SD-CARD ADAPTER !

Plug it into your PC, make a BACKUP of all of your files !

Use GEDIT to erase all Partitions on your SD-CARD !

Create a new EXT2 Partion + Format it to EXT2 again !

Use GEDIT to erase all Partitions on your SD-CARD !

Create a new FAT32 Partition + Format it to FAT32 again !

Put the SD-CARD out of the ADAPTER and into your PHONE !

Start your PHONE, let it boot up + recognize + load your SD-CARD !

Try to make a PHOTO + to store it on your SD-CARD !

NO ERROR MESSAGES OCCURED UNTIL NOW ??? THEN EVERYTHING IS O.K: !!!

BE SURE, THAT YOU`VE INSTALLED THE LATEST CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY -

3.0.2.4 OR ABOVE + THE SWIFTDROID 2.3.3 V2.0 - BEFORE !!!

AND DO NOT USE WINDOWS7 TO TRY TO FORMAT YOUR SD-CARD - IT DOES NOT

WORK !!!
.................................................. .................................................. ...................................

ONLY TO YOUR INFORMATION : I`M USING SWIFTDROID 2.3.3 V2.0

– SINCE 21.04.2011 – WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS

- AT A MINIMUM SPEED-RATE OF 122 MHZ

- AT A MAXIMUM SPEED-RATE OF 852 MHZ

PLEASE DO NOT TRY HIGHER SPEED-RATES - BECAUSE YOUR PHONE WILL GET

HOT AND UNSTABLE !
.................................................. .................................................. ....................................

AND YOU`LL BE ABLE TO DECREASE THE POWER CONSUMPTION OF YOUR PHONE

- BY SETTING :

- THE MINIMUM SPEED-RATE TO 122 MHZ

- THE MAXIMUM SPEED-RATE TO 600 MHZ ( THE LOWER = THE BETTER )
.................................................. .................................................. ....................................

A PERSONAL TIP : IF YOU`RE NORMALLY USING THE PHONE- FUNCTIONS - ONLY :

- SET THE MINIMUM SPEED-RATE TO 122 MHZ

- SET THE MAXIMUM SPEED-RATE TO 300 MHZ OR 400 MHZ

- AND IMPROVE THE MAXIMUM SPEED-RATE ON DEMAND - IF YOU NEED IT !
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOW : HAVE FUN + TRY TO FIX YOUR PROBLEM - AS MENTIONED ABOVE !

AND : LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THIS BOARD

- IF MY TIP WAS HELPFUL TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM - OR NOT !

I have same problem like u do(for five months!).. I have tried various method to fix it but none succesfull(format. switch ROM, etc). Yesterday I tried instal ROM 4.0.3 by mikegapinski and my phone finally detected my 8G MicroSD card class 4 :D, because the ICS still has bugs on it I switch back to SwiftDroid v2.0 ASIS, and my phone finally still can detect the sd card.. so far no problem occur, lets hope none will arise :D
