Dropped and Cracked

Yep I dropped it and it fell screen down onto uneven tile flooring. It still works but I'll be getting my "new" (refurb) from assurion tomorrow. I would have taken pictures tonight but kinda busy. I'll edit tomorrow and show it off. Anywho for those so more techie with the androids than I. Is there a way to back up my stock (I have not rooted) setup so I can download it onto the refurb when it gets here (If there is a thread just point me that way I would appreciate it). I have done some Icon customizations and such that I don't really want to have to redo if I can help it. Also for apps that I have paid for, is there a way to get them on the new one without having to re-purchase? Thanks for any help. I'll post the pic sometime tomorrow.

Thanks C_D. I thought I had seen a thread about it but could not remember the exacts. I know I can DL the RUU for backup, but that will not help since it reverts the phone back to factory stock. Basicly, that's what I'll have with the replacement. I'm going to search for any other posiblities to back up the stock system with the custom icons and settings I have. It'll just be time consuming to redo all the icons and scenes if not. Still if anyone has any suggestions, besides rooting (which I'm not totally opposed) but if something happens and I cannot unroot I cannot afford a $400-500 replacement, I am open to them. thats gonna leave a mark... did u have a gel sleeve or hard case cover for it or just carrying it loosely? Judging where it was hit based on the crack pattern a protective case might have cushioned the fall. Idk but good luck with the new one bro... Sorry to see such a good phone go at such a young age

I usually carry the phone in my old instinct sleeve. When I fly I have it in a pocket with a short mini USB cord and did not want to chance the screen scratches so hence the instinct sleeve and it works good. I was passing it off to someone else that needed to read an email and thought they had a grip on it but they didn't. The tile floor was uneven so idk if a case would have helped. It certainly couldn't have hurt...right? I don't know how long I held my breath before picking it up... Thanks to everyone for the condolences.

After seeing where it cracked, that's exactly where the Otterbox protects that the other cases don't. I was on the fence about the Otter due to the added bit of bulk vs. other cases. But this completely decided it for me!

I just read the thread on it! Maybe I should invest!?!?! Bulk may be an issue though. Thanks for the heads up.

As far as the screen replacement, well lets just say I was less than two minutes away from a service center. I walked in the door and held up my phone to the tech and she cringed. She said physical damage has to go through insurance, unless I want to pay for a new phone. So I opted for the insurance. Now if I take the two phones to the service center and ask to have the bodies swapped out I wonder what the insurance company would say? I mean really what is the difference. I am going to ship them a broken screen back with a working phone either way! I guess I should see what the service center / assurion says tomorrow. That would solve my customization issue, if they will do a body swap.

Update: So I just took a look see at teh hero DIY disasymble tutorial. Looks like the LCD is a beast unto itself. So a "body swap" wouldn't be enough. However an LCD swap could do the trick. Once again we shall see tomorrow.

I just dropped mine face down on ice tonight, thank god mine didnt crack or leave any damage. The gel casing only protects the back but not the front.

So they would not let me just swap the LCD's. Just kept saying we are expecting the old phone back with it's serial number. Anywho got the replacement up to snuff and ordered the otter this morning. Just a FYI the discount was still good today.

I currently have a thick screen protector that sucks, and catches my finger all the time so I can't really slide it across. $19.00 is a good price too.....
