***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hey guys, I just woke up and I have a question.
One feature I've longed for in Android is the ability to control multiple volumes in one panel easily. From what I've seen it looks like you have the ability to bring up the volume control and then slide the value on the screen, but from what I've seen doing so only brings up the ringer volume. It would be really great if they could have it bring up both that and media volume as well, because frequently I want to change the media volume (in case something goes off in school) and currently I have to open a media app and then change it instead of just being able to change it on the fly.
tl;dr are all volume controls able to be changed with the volume popup triggered by the rocker?

I've used Audio Manager Pro to do this for years. I think it was the absolute first app I ever bought on the OG Droid.

Nice widget showing all volumes, tap it to adjust each volume, or to move all to silent.

I understand the desire to possibly wait to see what's available at CES in January, but I'd be really worried that anything awesome presented there won't come to Verizon any time soon.

They've proven that their "testing" and "Quality Control" will hold up any phone worth buying. (And I put that in quotes because it's laughable. If they really cared about quality control, I can't see how the Bionic ever made it out.)

Anybody disappointed in the camera? I'm just really curious to know why Google didn't let Samsung put their SGSII 8mp camera in the Nexus. The Galaxy S2 came out around 7 months ago, why put a lesser camera in a newer phone? This is honestly the only thing that's making me consider waiting to see whats in store at CES.

I've read speculation that:
1) Writing an 8megapixel file takes longer, and would kill the current instantaneous shutter on the Gnex.

2) Megapixels are useless if you don't use a good CMOS sensor. Megapixels are kind of like 'X' designations on hats. Is there a difference between a 10X Stetson and a 20X Stetson?

But do I really need to open an app to do that, or even have a widget? My point is I want all volume options in the dialog that comes up when you hit the volume rocker, because opening an app to change the volumes defeats the purpose lol.

that's what i figured. if they keep the sound options from honeycomb, when you press the volume rocker it shows you the volume, but you can hit a button in that popup that shows the other volumes as well.

Give Audio Manager a try...

That's what I can't stand. I really liked having a Macbook for the reason that you could disable all flash ads on a website.

I use the NoScript add on for Firefox on my PC and it disables all scripts until you allow them, which = no flash. I do not use an anti virus program because of this, and have never gotten a virus since I started using it. That was in 2006 I think. I doubt there is anything like that to work on mobile web yet, but I have not looked into it.

If you're not a fan of Sense, just hold on. RAZR's screen is a little to darkish and has a weird tinge unless it's turned on at full brightness. Nexus will get flash support soon, and I'm sure there will be a software fix on the way for FB. That's the beauty of Nexus. Fixes will come much more quickly than with other phones. A volume bug fix is already on it's way for those with the GSM version.

Camera won't be as good as iPhone probably, but I don't think any phone will be at this point.

Ha! You mean that football team that has a QB dangling like a dingleberry, just an add-on with no benefit whatsoever but still manages to not fall off? :D

Haha, well he beat out Orton, so what does that mean? :D No but I think the most ironic result would be Orton having a great day, and smashing Denver, so I think I will go with that.

I remember being on Alltel and being the last to get a phone. Then Verizon swallowed me up. It all feels so familiar... :(

In my opinion, for what that's worth, Jobs was partially correct!

Jobs big thing was that Flash was a monster and we all needed to stop feeding that monster and convert to HTML5 right now. Converting the entire Internet to HTML5 would have been a nightmare of epic proportions. It would likely have cost trillions of dollars to accomplish and would have taken years to fully implement.

While I don't think anyone really disagreed that HTML5 has the potential to be a better graphics medium than Flash, the HTML5 standard is still under development. There is no official standard in place yet and, as such, browser manufacturers don't have a consistent set of standards to implement. And as we saw a few years ago with draft Wireless-N development, not having defined standards means that manufacturers will make assumptions and implement things that may or may not be compatible with the final standard. And this usually turns into compatibility issues for the end user!

While this is true, the only true way to make progress is to cut the cord. We wouldn't have the progress we had as far as we did with HTML5 content without that move.

People by the nature avoid the hard route. the only way to make them take the hard road is to force it.

Now with Adobe stopping flash development for mobile, it's the extra push the industry needs.

A little OT but it really bugs me. Why are people's two and one year old smartphones on their last legs?

We pay at least $200 for these phones and as in my case usually more (full retail). THEY SHOULD LAST LONGER!

I have old flip phones that are 5+ years old and they work fine. I realize these smart phones are more advanced hence more things to go wrong but technology is also more advanced so why the big step back in longevity?

I just feel If they only allow us to upgrade at a subsidized price every two years the equipment should be able to make it.

I know I will get flamed but if I owned VZW I would allow you to upgrade every six months at a subsidized price. If you did upgrade it would subsequently reset your contract therefore locking you in longer. WIN WIN :)
