Feb-15, and still no sign for Android 2.1 on hero.

HTC is mocking its customers and does not even send an update on their plans.

I have been writing on this 3 months ago, people told me to be quiet and wait. 2 month ago, they said it's coming. 1 month ago, they told me to have patience.
HOW MUCH MORE CAN (SHOULD) WE WAIT??

Even Google themselves don't care about stone-age versions anymore (anyone said Google Buzz?)

WE DESERVE AN UPDATE NOW!

How dare they keep us waiting for a free update that was never promised in the first place! I am still on Windows 95 waiting for my free update to windows 98 ... jeez! Whats taking so long!?!?!

... hint of sarcasm ...

Seriously though, I bought this phone not knowing if an update would ever come out for it at all. Would I like to have one? Hell yeah I would like to have an update to 2.1! ... but what can I do if they say "scratch it"? ... not a whole lot.

Rankorn, people might have a bit more sympathy for your hyperbole if you actually contributed anything to these forums. However all you've posted in the past few months has been in your own "Poll:" threads. The rest of us have been busy helping each other get the most out of our handsets, which is probably why we're prepared to bide our time rather than rant and rave. ;)

Btw, there's plenty of info here to help you if you must have 2.1 right now. Go check the ROM Version sticky in the "All Things Root" sub-forum for a start; there are two very usable 2.1 ROMs listed there.

Why is everyone demanding updates. Question... Does the phone do what you expected when you bought it. The answer is yes. Its hands down the best phone i have ever owned. The next question is simple. Why is everyone in a hurry to have a phone that with the new update may ruin everything we liked about it before.

At the end of the day HTC know the heros fine just the way it is. Future software updates are gonna be full of features that support selling the next gen of phones. You will have to wait till those are on the market because they want a buzz about the new features. This is so all your friends hear about the great features of you HTC android phone and puts them in the shop to buy one. Then they might buy the latest one. If they buy the new chip version it then makes us think wow that’s even better I want to get rid of my hero now and buy the latest model.
And for HTC its a win win situation because they will still have people going into stores saying i want a Hero even if they dont buy the new one.
This all happens if the buzz is right and in a way saying "where’s my update" just adds to the buzz.

So relax.

do any of you think that perhaps the fact that HTC are bringing out the legend (which is pretty much the hero with 2.1!!) means that they wont bother bringing out 2.1 for hero??

it would be like shooting themselves in the foot?

The stated in the press release for the Legend that Hero would be getting a free upgrade to the new version of sense

I'm also of the thinking that while it would surely be nice and very appreciated to get Android 2.1 officially realeased for the Hero, it is NOT a contractual obligation of HTC to do so. When we bought the phone, we bought it with a running OS that did what it promised to do, and later they even relesed a subsecuent upgrade without having to.

So to come here and complaint about how much time it takes for HTC to GIVE US SOMETHING FOR FREE is rather childish (and yes, I want the upgrade too).
