How do I remove T-Mobile from my start/boot screen? I would like to change it to Google / G1 instead of T-Mobile / G1. Maybe there are more of us T-Haters out here.... My phone is not rooted. I am in Vietnam and would not do that myself but would let a phoine shop do it if there were more G1's here.

Maybe the 2 of you could swap phones? xD

Just kidding....
To answer the question....

I haven't seen any options in the phone to actually change the startup screens (although that would be kool to do..)

Only way I could think of doing it is by rooting the phone...

RozzaC you can do it through fastboot here's the link to the what you need... http://www.getyourdroidon.com/root/3-splash-screens.zip

Well, it seems like author did really big work. I googled about changing logo, and came accross this topic. No other pages feated what I need.

I have several questions after reading the manual and before doing steps described:

1. I do not want to change second logo. I want to change only first one. Will it be OK to skip 2nd and 3d steps?

2.
Code:
3f) open RUU_SPLASH.zip and drag and drop the nk.nbf. It should replace the existing file, check the date/time
A little bit unclear.. Is that means I shoul add nk.nbf to archive? If so, I do not see any nk.nbf existing in archive to replace..

3. How can I fetch the original 1st logo? I want to edit it and erase T-Mobile, leaving just G1...
Or maby you have nice ready for use logos to share :)

if you just want to remove the (G1 / TMO) boot screen do not worry about the third only replace your splash1.img and splash2.img and you will be fine...So create the new splash.img's using the tools in that file and then fastboot them to the phone no other work is needed.... actually try this tool may be a little easier for you to use... http://www.getyourdroidon.com/root/splash.zip

Well, i am done with splash! That was not that easy to preapare, but was easy to do:eek:

Here is what I did step by step:

Producing a splash

1. Paint a picture or take already produced. For exaple this: http://www.ryebrye.com/images/android_boot_image.jpg
Resolution must be exactly 320x480 portrait.
2. Convert a picture to special format using tool from previous post (CreateG1Splash.exe)

Flashing to device

1. Power off phone and power on with Camera button holded. You will see 3 debugging androids on the white background. Wait till "Serial0" text appears and press Back button to cause "fastboot" text.
2. Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
3. Your Windows will recognize device (you may hear a sound), but you still need to install special driver: http://dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip
Just go to Device manager and apply driver to one of the devices under USB section (you should guess which one is the rifght:D)
4. Download and install fastboot for windows (a console utility) from here:
fastboot binary for windows! - xda-developers
5. Run these commands in console:
fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot flash splash2 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot reboot

And after that you will see your picture as a splash!

Note, that if you splash only splash1, your picture will appear as a first logo for less than a second and them you will see TMO logo again
So, if you want totally get rid of it, just flash splash2 too.

I have done all that under Windows 7.

Hope this helps someone..

Good luck!
